Senior Civil Technician
We're looking for an experienced Senior Civil Technician to join BakerHicks' Power Civil & Structural team in Manchester. You'll primarily support the delivery of power sector projects, with exposure to multidisciplinary work across sectors including aviation, life sciences, nuclear, defence, public, rail and highways.
This is a key technical role where you'll take ownership of producing high-quality civil engineering drawings and models, supporting projects from concept through to detailed design and construction. Working closely with Civil Engineers and multidisciplinary teams, you'll help deliver coordinated, buildable solutions while maintaining high technical and quality standards. You'll also play an important role in supporting and mentoring junior technicians within the team.
What you'll be doing
- Producing high-quality 2D and 3D civil engineering drawings and models using Civil 3D and AutoCAD
- Leading the production and coordination of drainage, highways, earthworks and external works designs
- Supporting projects from concept through to fully coordinated detailed design
- Working closely with Civil Engineers and multidisciplinary teams to develop safe, efficient and buildable design solutions
- Checking and reviewing technical drawings and models to ensure quality, accuracy and compliance with company and client standards
- Mentoring and providing day-to-day technical support to junior technicians where appropriate
- Contributing to the development and maintenance of CAD standards and best practice within the team
- Coordinating technical deliverables while managing priorities across multiple projects
- Collaborating with clients, consultants and other engineering disciplines throughout project delivery
What we're looking for
- Significant experience as a Civil Technician within an engineering consultancy or similar environment
- HNC in Civil Engineering (or equivalent)
- High level of proficiency in Civil 3D and AutoCAD
- Experience producing civil engineering deliverables from concept through to detailed design
- Good understanding of civil engineering design principles relating to drainage, highways, earthworks and external works
- Knowledge of UK civil engineering standards, CDM Regulations and industry best practice
- Experience working on infrastructure projects, ideally within the power sector or other regulated industries
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a high standard of technical quality
- Experience mentoring or supervising junior technicians would be advantageous
- Autodesk Vehicle Tracking experience would be beneficial but is not essential
- Ideally working towards, or interested in achieving, EngTech TMICE
- Full UK Driving Licence
- To support work within sectors such as defence and nuclear, candidates must be eligible to obtain security clearance where required
