Senior Claims Adjuster - Casualty
Job Description
The Role
Canopius is seeking an experienced and technically strong Senior Claims Adjuster, with knowledge of handling complex claims in the London insurance market, to join its Casualty Claims team. The Casualty portfolio includes General Liability, Product Liability, and Medical Professional Liability across a broad range of industries, offering exposure to complex claims, sectors, and jurisdictions.
The role currently focuses on US claims, but over time will also include International General Liability claims. It also includes a small legacy portfolio of UK Employers’ Liability claims.
The successful candidate will take ownership of complex and high-value claims from first notification through to resolution, delivering high-quality technical handling, strong stakeholder engagement, and exceptional customer outcomes. In addition, the individual will act as a subject matter expert for the portfolio, providing guidance and technical support across the team.
Responsibilities
- Develop a thorough understanding of the portfolio and proactively adjust claims from notification through to settlement, ensuring that the portfolio is appropriately reserved at all times.
- Develop and apply a strong understanding of policy coverage, wordings, and exclusions.
- Analyse and determine coverage, liability, and quantum, including multi-jurisdictional and technically challenging issues.
- Maintain accurate claims files and documentation in line with internal and regulatory standards.
- Act as a subject matter expert within the Casualty portfolio, providing technical guidance and mentoring to more junior team members.
- Build and maintain positive, collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including brokers, coverholders, DCAs, underwriters, actuaries, brokers, and outwards reinsurance.
- Instruct and proactively manage panel lawyers and external experts to achieve optimal claim outcomes and reduce claims leakage.
- Provide oversight of delegated claims and third-party administrators, monitoring performance and ensuring claims are managed in accordance with Canopius’ claims values.
- Escalate complex or high-value matters appropriately to senior stakeholders.
- Contribute to claims trends analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with internal policies, claims manual, and regulatory requirements.
- And other ad hoc duties as required.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
