UK P&I Club Senior Claims Executive
Overall Objective of the Role
To handle a caseload consisting of P&I matters and to provide advice to Members.
Key Expectations
- Investigate, analyse, assess, negotiate and resolve a range of P&I claims, including high value and complex matters, in accordance with procedures and guidelines, taking into account the interests of both the Member and the Clubs, and to record accurate estimates for the same.
- Respond to Member queries on non-claims related matters such as contract reviews and operational queries.
- Work with a high degree of independence but seek advice where appropriate from both P&I Senior Claims Directors and the Syndicate Manager.
- Regular participation in and contribution to internal training events, claims forum meetings, publications etc.
- Develop productive relations with Members through handling claims, account management, Member visits, seminars and entertainment.
- Develop and manage relationships with suppliers including entertainment of Correspondents.
- Liaise effectively with underwriting, loss prevention and management teams to ensure all internal stakeholders are kept fully advised of claim and Member developments.
- Comply with internal reporting guidelines and prepare board agenda papers for both Clubs as required.
- Case and member-related travel, sometimes at short notice.
- Participate in the mobile duty rota.

Key Requirements
- Experienced in handling claims and in marine insurance and shipping law, and will understand the interplay between the various stakeholders, and have good relations with a variety of members and brokers.
- To become familiar with the Clubs’ members ensuring familiarity with their ship types, trades and commercial operations and requirements.
- To rapidly become fully familiar with the Rules of both Clubs and with internal procedures and policies.
- Able to work independently but willing to seek guidance where appropriate and to demonstrate a track record of successful claims management and member appreciation.
- Able to demonstrate an understanding of issues which affect the clubs, including finances and regulatory matters.
- Able to regularly contribute to internal meetings e.g. claims forum, syndicate meetings.
- A strong negotiator, and able to work with and manage suppliers.
- A proven team player and effective at developing and managing relationships both internally and externally.
- Enthusiastic, self-motivated and of sound judgement.
- To become fully familiar with all of the Clubs’ IT systems.
