About the Role
We're looking for a customer-focused Senior Legal Expenses Claims Handler to join our growing Legal Services team in Bristol.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone experienced in Legal Expenses Insurance to manage a varied caseload while providing technical guidance and support across the department.
You'll be responsible for managing legal expenses insurance claims from initial assessment through to conclusion, ensuring customers receive an exceptional service while maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements, policy terms, and internal procedures.
You'll work closely with clients, solicitors, insurers, brokers, and corporate partners, playing a key role in delivering a high-quality claims service and supporting the continued success of our Legal Services operation.
This is a hybrid role, working 2 days a week from our Bradley Stoke office and 3 days a week from home offering flexibility while being part of a dynamic and supportive team.

What You’ll Do
- Manage a portfolio of legal expenses insurance claims from inception to conclusion.
- Assess claims in line with policy wording, regulatory requirements, and internal procedures.
- Provide guidance and policy interpretation to customers, colleagues, solicitors, and business partners.
- Appoint panel and non-panel solicitors and authorising appropriate indemnity limits.
- Analyse legal cost schedules and refer complex cost matters to specialist teams
- Review customer documentation and identify additional information required to support claim assessments.
- Communicate claim decisions clearly and professionally; drafting decline letters referencing relevant policy exclusions and terms.
- Support and mentor Claims Handlers, sharing technical expertise and helping to drive high performance across the team.

What You’ll Need
- Experience working within the Legal Expenses Insurance sector, particularly within claims or legal advice roles.
- Minimum of 6 months' experience within a regulated claims environment.
- Knowledge of Legal Expenses Insurance products, including motor and household policies.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a busy workload with minimal supervision.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong customer service and stakeholder management abilities.
- IT proficiency, including experience using case management systems.
