Senior Claims Specialist - CPRI

The role:
A newly created Senior role within a specialist team, offering a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact at a time of key expansion of HDI's CPRI offering.
- An opportunity to act as a go-to Specialist based in London’s Centre of Excellence for CPRI, supporting both locally and globally as the CPRI product grows in strength, breadth and global footprint.
- Will deliver best-in-class claims service and effective end-to-end claims handling across Credit & Political Risk classes, consistently ensuring the best outcomes are achieved for clients and the business.
- Will act as a senior technical expert and be accountable for making high-quality decisions under pressure while maintaining service standards.
- Will drive operational excellence to support service outcomes – both external and internal - through continuous improvement in claims processes, both general and tailored to the class. This includes seeking novel ways of streamlining work and enhancing service delivery through technology improvements and considered use of AI.
- Will support team capability, mentoring less experienced colleagues and contributing to a high-performing Claims function.
- Will deputise for the Credit & Political Risk Claims Manager, acting as a key technical referral point globally for the Credit & Political Risk Centre of Excellence as required.
Key accountabilities:
Claims Management
- Manage a portfolio of claims and circumstances from first notification/awareness through investigation, evaluation and resolution, including settlement and recovery.
- Make timely, well-reasoned claims decisions based on policy coverage and legal considerations.
- Establish and maintain accurate reserves, ensuring early identification and escalation of material exposures, acting within governance structures and guidelines.
- Proactively manage claims lifecycle to ensure efficient progression, avoiding unnecessary delays or stagnation.
- Focus on value generation and service in use of adjusters, lawyers and other external service providers.

Technical Expertise
- Provide specialist expertise in:
- 🔹Credit Risk, with focus on Structured Credit for Financial Institution
- 🔹 Political Risk
- From time to time, assisting with additional claims including Contingency, Crisis Management and Political Violence.
- To be key subject matter expert and technical referral point for the team and across the wider organisation, providing specialist knowledge as required.
- Provide technical guidance and share expertise to support consistency and best practice in claims handling.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legal, regulatory and market developments impacting claims.
- Contribute to underwriting discussions by providing insight on claims trends, exposures and wordings.
Stakeholder & Market Engagement
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, influencing to encourage better business decisions.
- Collaborate continuously with underwriters and attend client meetings to support them in the retention and development of profitable business.
- Act as an ambassador for the Claims function, promoting a strong service reputation in the market.
Continuous Improvement & Transformation
- Identify opportunities to improve claims processes, controls and service delivery.
- Participate in business change initiatives and projects to help transform the claims proposition towards the future claims service model for HDI Claims locally and globally.
- Support development of best practice standards and consistency across claims handling.
- Leverage data and insights to drive improvements in claims outcomes and portfolio performance.

Operational Excellence & Governance
- Ensure claims and data is accurate, complete and maintained within relevant systems at all times.
- Deliver against agreed KPIs, including turnaround times, reserving accuracy and claims lifecycle efficiency.
- Comply with all internal policies and guidelines, claims philosophy and relevant regulations and laws.
- Support audit, peer review and governance processes as required.
Skills & experience:
- Significant experience in complex claims handling within Credit & Political Risk, or from a relevant legal or adjusting backgrounds.
- Claims experience in any of Contingency, Crisis Management is desirable. Political Violence is a bonus.
- Follows financial and geopolitical news with interest.
- Knowledge and awareness of the concept of lender debt refinancing and how this is critical to understanding potential Claims activity.
- Ability to work autonomously, managing a portfolio with significant authority and responsibility.
- Ability to respond quickly and effectively in time-critical situations.
- Good understanding of the London Market and relevant regulatory environment.
- Passion for claims resolution and delivering a high-quality client experience.
- Curious and proactive mindset, with a commitment to continuous learning and improvement.
- Adaptability and flexibility in response to changing business needs and evolving environments.
