Head of Transport Logistics (TL), Chaucer Ltd
Job Summary
- Work with Head of Marine to develop strategy, produce Business Plan, and underwrite the Transport Logistics (TL) account for Chaucer
- Lead TL underwriting team in strategy, client/broker distribution, and securing Chaucer’s goal to establish global leadership in TL and become the preferred market
- Own responsibility for underwriting, management, and growth of the TL class
Main Duties
Strategic Leadership & Portfolio Development
- Set, own, and manage Chaucer’s TL business strategy with Head of Marine
- Develop long-term strategy for TL business across all platforms and Chaucer hubs
- Produce and present Business Plans for approval by Underwriting management
Underwriting & Operational Management
- Ensure TL team operates in line with Business Plans, Syndicate Guidelines, and Compliance requirements
- Continuously assess and develop TL pricing models
- Guarantee compliance with Syndicate Systems and Lloyd’s regulations/Byelaws
- Conduct Peer Review of allocated risks
Data Management & Analysis
- Monitor and maintain accuracy & upkeep of premium data in Charisma across assigned risks
- Track portfolio performance (e.g., loss trends, industry benchmarks) and report findings

Client & Broker Relationships
- Build/maintain relationships with brokers to ensure new and renewal business
- Enhance Customer relationships (e.g., airlines, manufacturers) to promote retention and growth
- Advise customers on insurance/roiks matters and ensure Treating Customers Fairly (TCF) principles
Reinsurance & Market Coordination
- Purchase Facultative Reinsurance in accordance with Chaucer guidelines
- Collaborate with Reinsurance Purchasing team on renewal programmes and strategise with reinsurers
Requirements
Technical Skills & Qualifications
- Essential
- Microsoft Office: Proficient in Word and Excel (Intermediate)
- Education
- 5 GCSEs (Grade C/4 or higher): English + Maths
- 3 ‘A’-Levels or equivalent
- Pass Lloyd’s Introductory Test
- ACII certification
Experience & Competencies
- Essential
- Significant marine insurance experience with underwriting focus
- Experience leading broker negotiations and client liaison
- Knowledge of actuarial rating process and business planning
