Purpose Of The Role

Preparing accounts and tax returns and overseeing the work of trainees and more junior members of the team.

Accountabilities

  • First point of contact for a portfolio of clients
  • Prepares accounts, corporation tax returns and personal tax returns, to director review stage
  • Looks after some of the larger and more complex clients
  • Prepares management accounts for a variety of clients
  • Mentors trainee accountants
  • Assists the Directors with reviewing the work of trainees and junior team members
  • Liaises directly with clients to ensure we have all information to prepare accounts; and to address any queries or questions that come to light
  • Manages billing and work-in-progress for the portfolio
  • Takes responsibility for workflow to ensure turnaround targets met
  • Carries out any other reasonable task required from time to time

Skills/Qualifications

  • Ideally ACA, ACCA, or equivalent qualification (fully qualified)
  • Advanced technical knowledge in accounting and tax compliance
  • Expert-level understanding of UK GAAP (especially FRS 102), corporate tax, VAT, and financial reporting requirements
  • Experience in reviewing and signing off complex statutory accounts and advisory work
  • Skilled in analysing client risk, identifying technical issues, and delivering accurate, commercially sound solutions
  • High proficiency in practice and accounting software (e.g. CCH, Xero, Sage, QuickBooks), including workflow and billing tools
  • Excellent communication and client-handling skills with the ability to build trust and long-term relationships
  • Operates as a senior leader and role model within the practice
  • Demonstrates ownership, sound judgement, and a solutions-focused mindset
  • Aligns with the firm’s values and culture, promoting collaboration, integrity, and continuous improvement
  • Ability to respond and be reactive to shifting priorities at short notice
  • Ability to multitask under pressure and to lead others
