Join our Gender Identity Service as a Senior Clinical/Counselling Psychologist

We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate Senior Clinical or Counselling Psychologist to join our multidisciplinary Gender Identity Service at NHFT. You’ll play a key role in delivering specialist psychological assessment, formulation and intervention for transgender and gender diverse adults. You will be working within NHS England guidelines to support individuals throughout their transition pathway. As part of an Outstanding-rated Trust, you’ll contribute to high‑quality, person‑centred care while collaborating closely with colleagues across psychology, psychiatry, speech and language therapy, nursing and peer support.

This role offers the opportunity to develop advanced clinical skills, contribute to service development and research, supervise trainees and assistants, and help shape an evolving national service. If you’re motivated by meaningful, values‑driven work and want to make a real difference in people’s lives, we’d love to hear from you.

We are able to support a band 7 preceptorship to the right candidate with the expectation that within 12-months you move up into the band 8a.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
