Job Overview

We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Fellow in Diabetes & Endocrinology to join our expanding tertiary service at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust.

About the Role

This role is ideal for a motivated doctor who:

  • Has prior medical experience
  • Is interested in diabetes and endocrinology
  • Is keen to develop clinical and service improvement skills in a highly supportive environment

Responsibilities

  • Provide registrar-level (ST3+) clinical support across inpatient and outpatient diabetes & endocrinology services, including:
    • Participating in ward rounds
    • Managing inpatient referrals
    • Attending clinics (general and specialist) and multidisciplinary team meetings
  • Support endocrine dynamic testing and tertiary subspecialty services
  • Work within a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality patient care
  • Contribute to service development and integration
  • Actively engage in education and training of junior colleagues and clinical staff
  • Participate in audit, quality improvement, teaching, and research initiatives

Salary and Qualifications

Salary (Nodal Point 5)

  • Determined based on:
    • Medical experiences, skills, continuous professional development
    • Standard NHS medical work schedules
      • Includes special pay rates for bank/weekend hours and inducements.
      • Basic sal envieBritish sal pay structure

Essential grade criteria:

  • Minimum 6 years of specialty-specific training
  • Completed a higher specialty exam (e.g. FRCP, FRCA, FRCS)
  • Well-supported portfolio of certified evidence meeting specialty lab protocols (similar to Deantisery recruit consult for training viaPoritisons Close TBC

Person Specification

Qualifications, Training & Experience

Essential Criteria

  • An MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Active GMC registration
  • Basic knowledge and clinical judgment skills
  • Medical degree or equivalent and practiced at least 3 years
  • MRCP or equivalent qualification achieved
  • General NHS healthcare experience

Desirable Criteria

  • Completed or attended relevant training courses
  • Attended professional meetings in the field
  • Prior experience in diabetes & endocrexologous
  • Completed audit projects

  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in multi-professional teams

  • Strong communication skills
    • Both verbal and written English

  • Participation in both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching tasks
  • Demonstrated adaptability in a clinical team
  • Flexibility and transparency during conflicts/wicked problems.

  • Prior service experience demonstrating required flexibility, enthusiasm
