Job Description

We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic doctor to join the medicine team working at either Princess of Wales Hospital, Bridgend or Princes Charles Hospital, Merthyr Tydfil.

Target Audience

This post is aimed at doctors looking for a post at either IM3 level or ST4+ level. It is expected that doctors applying for this post would be able to demonstrate completion of either Core Medical Training or Years 1-2 of internal medicine training.

Role Description

The post involves working alongside a dedicated Medicine specialty team including medical trainees (FY1, FY2, IMT, ACCS, SpR), nurse practitioners, other AHP’s.

Responsibilities include:

  • Covering wards, outpatients, specialty referrals, and ward rounds.
  • Taking part in the general medical on-call.

This post is fixed term for up to 6 months to cover training vacancies.

Pay Scales

These are the current applicable pay scales; however, these may change upon implementation of the framework agreement for reform to the terms and conditions of service for resident doctors and dentists in Wales. Further details can be found at BMA Framework Agreement Wales.

Speciality Ward Round

  • Actively involved in the management and decision making for patients.
  • Supporting more junior members of the team.
  • Available during the working week so that medical and nursing staff can communicate and consult freely.
  • Conducting ward rounds to identify and assess problems and assist in joint plans for management of care.
  • Contributing to an appropriate model of care which recognises the involvement of the multi-disciplinary team, the patient and family.
  • Contributing with the multi-disciplinary team in the use of referenced, evidence based guidelines, which are dated, signed and reviewed at least bi-annually or more frequently in light of new evidence.

  • Working with the rest of the clinical team to support the delivery of a high quality service provided by well-trained staff within clear departmental policies and procedures.
  • Participating in the on-call rota.
