Senior Clinical Fellow in Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgery

Senior Clinical Fellow in Paediatric Orthopaedics (ST5+ Equivalent)

Location: Bristol Royal Hospital for Children Contract: 12-month appointment ** Start Date:** August 2027


About the Role

This advanced clinical post is based within one of the largest paediatric orthopaedic units in the UK and the regional Paediatric Major Trauma Centre for South West England.

The successful candidate will play a key role in:

  • Clinical care: Participate in clinics and surgical lists across Bristol Children’s Hospital and partner sites in the South West.
  • Audit & research: Engage in departmental audit projects and contribute to research initiatives.
  • Education & mentorship: Support junior team members and shaping future trainees in paediatric orthopaedics.
  • On-call responsibilities: Cover shifts on the middle-grade rota as allocated.

The post is ideal for candidates wishing to specialise in Paediatric Orthopaedics, gaining broad experience from routine cases to complex clinical scenarios.


Responsibilities

The post holder is responsible for:

  • Providing daily hands-on care for paediatric inpatients, including emergency and elective admissions.
  • Managing a spectrum of paediatric orthopaedic conditions, including:
    • Developmental hip dysplasia
    • Complex foot deformities
    • Neuromuscular disorders
    • Skeletal dysplasias
    • Upper/lower limb deformities
    • Daily fracture clinics and specialist clinics
  • Assisting in operating lists and participating in multidisciplinary team discussions.
  • Contributing to applied research and clinical audit, ensuring continuous service improvement.
  • Teaching and guiding junior doctors in the paediatric orthopaedic department.

Ideal for clinicians with advanced experience (ST5+ equivalent) with an interest in pursuing a subspecialty in Paediatric Orthopaedics.
