Senior Clinical Fellowship in Rheumatology
This is an exciting opportunity for a Senior Clinical Fellowship in Rheumatology at the Royal Cornwall Hospital. This is a 24-month fellowship programme designed to develop the skills to a level to deliver independent practice as a Rheumatology Consultant.
About the Fellowship
The primary objective of the fellowship is to provide advanced clinical training in the management of osteoporosis, inflammatory arthritis, connective tissue disease, and vasculitis. Additional experience in research and audit can be offered.
Specific Learning Objectives
- Knowledge: To develop full competency in the clinical assessment and management of rheumatoid conditions.
- Practical: To learn basic ultrasound guided joint injections.
- Research: Dedicated research time will be offered to complete at least one publication and presentation of work at international meetings will be supported.

Role and Responsibilities
Rheumatology fellowship training is provided by the rheumatology department and led by Dr David Hutchinson. The fellow will work in the department and supervise the registrars and junior doctors as the rheumatologist on call. The on-call commitment is 1:6. At least 2 half-days per week will be allocated to CPD, audit, and research.
The outpatient services in Rheumatology are delivered in a dedicated Rheumatology Unit. Full support is available for Rheumatology procedures in the outpatient setting. The department has a dedicated ultrasound machine.
