About the Role
Are you an experienced HCPC Registered Psychologist looking for a new challenge in a unique service?
Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to invite applications for a Senior Clinical or Counselling Psychologist role within our newly established Assertive Outreach Team (AOT).
The Opportunity
This cutting-edge service will deliver high-quality, person-centred care to individuals with complex mental health needs who may struggle to engage with traditional NHS services. Based across Oxford, the Assertive Outreach Team (AOT) provides proactive, flexible, and responsive interventions—working wherever the individual is needed (community, home, or our premises).

- Active Engagement Model – No office-based care; intervention delivered flexibly and adaptively in the individual’s natural environment
- Tailored, Recovery-Oriented Approach – Relationship-focused interventions aimed at continuity, trust, and sustained engagement
- Collaborative Caseload Management – Shared responsibility with a key worker model and multidisciplinary team (MDT) reviews to ensure rapid responses to relapse and disengagement
- Innovation & Service Development – Opportunity to shape and refine a new service while making a profound impact on vulnerable communities

Key Responsibilities
Psychological Assessment & Treatment
- Provide specialist psychological assessments using available data from multiple sources (e.g., mental health records, observational data, carer input)
- Develop and implement formal psychological intervention plans tailored to individual needs
- Apply evidence-based practice (e.g., CBT, systemic models, trauma-focused therapies) with flexibility to update and refine frameworks based on client responses
- Deliver interventions for individuals, carers, families, and groups, maintaining multiple hypotheses about the nature of client distress
Triage & Case Coordination
- Contribute to the triage process for referrals to the AOT, assessing fit-for-purpose and recommending appropriate care pathways
Requirements
- HCPC Registration as a Clinical or Counselling Psychologist
- Experience working with people with psychosis, complex mental health needs, or trauma histories
- Strong expertise in risk assessment, management, and working with dynamic needs
- Commitment to person-centred, recovery-oriented practices and a trauma-informed approach
- Ability to work flexibly and independently, often in unstructured settings
- CRM IV (or equivalent) if delivering trauma-focused therapies
