Senior Clinical Psychologist (Band 7 to 8a Preceptorship considered)
Psychologist – Home Based Treatment Team (South Cumbria)
Location: Barrow-in-Furness & Kendal (South Cumbria), UK
About the Role
We are seeking a psychologist to join the Home Based Treatment Teams in South Cumbria. This full- or part-time position spans two teams operating in Barrow-in-Furness and Kendal, working in close collaboration with colleagues across the area.
The post will be supported by:
- A Principal Clinical Psychologist (based in the Lancaster Home Based Treatment Team)
- A Consultant Clinical Psychologist who works across Acute and Urgent Pathways
About the Service
The Home Based Treatment Teams provides intensive community-based support for individuals experiencing:
- Acute episodes of mental illness
- Emotional distress
Key features of the role:
- Direct work with service users (assessments, formulations, short-term interventions)
- Indirect work, including:
- Service development
- Staff training and support
- Consultation with professionals
- Multidisciplinary collaboration, including liaison with inpatient wards and other agencies
- Focus on complex presentations, requiring strong analysis and problem-solving skills

Key Responsibilities
The psychologist in this role will:
- Provide individualised assessment, formulation, and evidence-based interventions
- Contribute to service improvement and development work
- Engage in training, supervision, and consultation across the team
- Work autonomously and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary framework
- Support service users and their families effectively within the community setting
Person Specification Requirements
We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate the core competencies of a clinical psychologist, particularly:
- Ability to work with individuals presenting complex mental health needs
- Strong expertise in formulation, assessment, and short-term intervention
- Commitment to multidisciplinary teamwork
- Interest in service improvement and training
- Responsibility towards your own professional development
Flexible and part-time working patterns will be considered, including discussions relevant to lived experience within the role. Applicants with preceptorship applications are welcome.
