Senior Clinical Psychology Post – Band 7 (with Development Plan to Band 8a) – Child Neurodevelopment Service
Job Overview
We are advertising a permanent, full-time Senior Clinical Psychology (Band 7 with development plan to Band 8a) position within our child neurodevelopment service. We welcome applications from suitably skilled and experienced psychologists as well as candidates seeking to progress from Band 7 to Band 8a through a structured development plan.
The successful candidate will join a diverse, vibrant multidisciplinary team (MDT) based in Caernarfon. The role involves delivering highly specialised neurodevelopmental assessments and advice for children and young people across Gwynedd and Anglesey, along with their families.
As a key member of the team, you will:
- Lead neurodevelopmental assessments (including complex cases)
- Support clinical formulations and diagnostic decision-making across the spectrum of child neurodevelopmental disorders
- Exercise clinical leadership with mentorship opportunities
- Collaborate closely with child and adolescent learning disability teams, mental health services, and multiagency partners
- Engage with the North Wales Clinical Psychology Programme
Role Duties & Responsibilities
This role requires an enthusiastic and dynamic individual with a proven passion for specialised neurodevelopmental work, commitment to clinical excellence, and dedication to evidence-based practice.
Core Responsibilities (with Tailored Development Pathway)
- Lead neurodevelopmental/neuropsychological assessments based on clinical need and service demand
- Work collaboratively with the MDT to promote psychological formulation and integrate clinical reasoning
- Offer consultation to multiagency professionals and families (within scope of development competencies)
- Develop supervisory skills through supervision and training models to support Trainee Clinical Psychologists
- Engage in service development initiatives, training, mentoring peers and teams
- Speak Welsh is desirable, but candidates proficient in English or Welsh (equally considered) may apply

Detailed Job Requirements & Qualifications
The appointed candidate will require (or be pursuing) the following:
Qualifications
Essential:
- Honours degree in Psychology
- Eligibility for associate Membership (AfaBPsS) of the British Psychological Society (interim requirement for later full membership)
- Postgraduate Doctoral qualification in Clinical Psychology, HCPC-registered, and accredited by the British Psychological Society
- Registration with the Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC)

Desirable:
- Additional research, training, or specialty modules in a field relevant to neurodevelopment
Experience
Essential:
- Assessed experience as a qualified Clinical Psychologist (with significant satisfactory case reflection)
- Evidence of specialist neurodevelopmental training (or equivalent via Head of Service approval) and previous supervised experience
- Commitment to ongoing professional development
Desirable:
- Teaching, training or supervision in neurotranschological or paediatricypatral contexts
- Experience working within territorial teams, creating clinical pathways, or managing complex multilayer casework
