Band 8A – Clinical Scientist (LCMS & Biochemistry)
We are seeking an enthusiastic HCPC-registered Clinical Scientist with Part 1 FRCPath qualification to join Berkshire and Surrey Pathology Services (BSPS)—a network of NHS laboratories serving 6 hospital sites: Ashford & St Peter’s, Frimley Park, Royal Berkshire, Royal Surrey, East Surrey Hospital, and Wexham Park.
About the Role
This is a 0.4 WTE (2 days/week), fixed-term (1-year) position to cover maternity leave in our LCMS section, part of the Specialist Biochemistry Services Department. This is a dynamic opportunity to contribute to the expansion of an evolving LCMS department.
The postholder will be based at Royal Surrey County Foundation Trust, Guildford, and work as part of the BSPS clinical team—a supportive, collaborative, and forward-thinking group across 6 hospital locations.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality clinical and analytical services in LC-MS/MS and biochemistry, including supplementary testing, method development, data interpretation, and quality assurance
- Provide expert guidance on specialist investigations and assist in the daily running of care pathways
- Contribute to clinical guidelines, follow-up communication, study design, and cross-team collaboration
- Support education and training for staff within the BSPS network
- Work closely with the University of Surrey, fostering research and innovation in analytical and clinical biochemistry

Key Requirements
- Mandatory HCPC registration

About Berkshire and Surrey Pathology Services (BSPS)
Our department offers a range of specialist analytical services (LC-MSMS, ICP-MS, immunoassay, Point-of-Care Testing) as well as interpretative reports, EQA schemes, oPD clinics (bariatric, renal stone, and lipid management), and a cardiovascular biomarkers lab.
As a supraregional assay service for trace elements and peptide hormones, we work collaboratively to reinforce world-class diagnostic and research capabilities.
