Ward M1 Overview
Ward M1 is a medically optimized ward supporting older adults aged 74 and above, with a strong focus on safe care, dignity, deconditioning, and discharge planning. We work closely as a multidisciplinary team to support our patients to maintain independence and achieve the best possible outcomes.
M1 is a nurse-led, 30-bedded unit. During winter pressures or Trust escalation, the ward may expand to 40 beds. We also provide overnight care for 1 or 2 dermatology patients (any age), usually nursed in side-rooms. Dermatology retains full clinical responsibility for these patients.
Job Responsibilities
- Provide and support patients as necessary with both personal and clinical care activities.
- Maintain accurate records of the patient’s care, documenting as appropriate on the Electronic Patient Record (Cerner) in line with Trust, professional, and departmental guidelines.
- Observe patients and report any changes to a Registered professional for review.
- Report any abnormal findings directly to the registered professional in charge or doctor.
- Undertake a range of basic housekeeping, stock control, and administrative duties within the clinical environment.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
