Within the Cloud & Engineering Practice, our Senior Cloud Engineers play a vital role in assisting public sector organizations to develop digital services that are highly available, reliable, resilient, and secure. These professionals are primarily software engineers with a focus on the deployment and operational aspects of cloud services rather than traditional software development. They are adaptable, comfortable working across various disciplines such as DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), and infrastructure architecture, ensuring comprehensive support and delivery of cloud-based solutions.
About The Role
The Senior Cloud Engineer at Made Tech will be instrumental in designing, implementing, and maintaining cloud infrastructure tailored to client needs. This role demands ensuring that cloud environments are secure, scalable, and highly available, aligning with best practices and industry standards. You will serve as a key technical advisor within your team, providing expertise on cloud architecture, deployment, and operational excellence.
Candidates should possess a strong background in software engineering, with an understanding of cloud platforms and emerging technologies. Staying current with industry trends and maintaining a broad technical knowledge across major cloud providers such as AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP) is essential. Building credibility through relevant certifications will be encouraged and supported.
This role involves collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams, including product managers, designers, and developers, to deliver high-quality cloud solutions. You will also be responsible for mentoring junior team members, fostering knowledge sharing, and ensuring adherence to best practices in cloud engineering.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have significant prior experience in cloud engineering, demonstrating success in deploying and managing cloud services. A deep understanding of cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, and GCP is essential, along with hands-on experience with containerization and orchestration tools like Docker and Kubernetes. Proficiency in multiple programming languages, including Python, Bash, and JavaScript, and familiarity with modern software engineering practices are required.
Certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS DevOps Engineer, Azure Developer, or equivalent are highly desirable. Experience working within multidisciplinary teams, particularly in a consultancy environment, is advantageous. Knowledge of infrastructure as code (IaC) tools like Terraform or CloudFormation, and experience with CI/CD pipelines, will be beneficial.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and deploy cloud architectures that meet client requirements for scalability, performance, and security.
- Manage cloud resources, containers, and related services using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
- Configure and maintain network security, access controls, and cloud security practices to safeguard data and resources.
- Implement automated processes for provisioning, monitoring, and scaling cloud infrastructure, including CI/CD pipelines.
- Monitor cloud environments for performance issues, optimize resource utilization, and troubleshoot problems proactively.
- Design and implement load balancing, caching, and content delivery networks to ensure high availability and optimal performance.
- Develop and maintain backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity plans.
- Create and update runbooks, standard operating procedures, and configuration management documentation.
- Provide advanced support for client applications and infrastructure, including on-call support when necessary.
- Ensure compliance with relevant standards and maintain necessary certifications.
- Promote cloud best practices across teams, evaluate new cloud services, and recommend improvements.
- Mentor and line-manage junior engineers, supporting their professional development and performance management.
