Senior CMHACS Practitioner - Mental Health
Band 6 Practitioner – Community Mental Health Acute Care Service

About the Role
The Community Mental Health Acute Care Service is seeking to recruit a Band 6 Practitioner, offering intensive home treatment and crisis intervention to individuals with complex mental health, physical, and social care needs.
You’ll work within a multi-disciplinary, multi-agency team, providing specialist support while avoiding unnecessary hospital admissions and facilitating early discharge from inpatient services.
All candidates will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility under current Home Office requirements.
Position Details
- Grade: Band 6
- Location: Riverview Resource Centre, Dumbarton Joint Hospital (Cardross Road, G82 5JA)
- Hours: Full-time, permanent (36-hour week), on a mixed shift pattern (09:00–17:00 and 12:00–20:00) across 7 days
- Compensation: Salary is pro-rata for part-time provisions (if applicable).
- Notice: Post may close early due to high demand—apply as soon as possible.
Key Responsibilities
Primary Duties
- Provide assessment, treatment, and crisis intervention for individuals in mental health distress, delivering intensive home-based care as an alternative to hospital admission.
- Act as a key discharge planner, offering immediate post-hospital support and follow-ups for early patient releases.
- Ensure clinical leadership for junior staff, managing workloads, allocating resources, and ensuring compliance with legal, ethical, and professional standards.
- Work collaboratively with Nursing & Social Work teams, inpatient services, and partner agencies to expedite crisis intervention and resource deployment.

Additional Support Roles
- Maintain strong communication networks between community mental health, inpatient units, and regional support systems.
- Guide junior staff development through clinical supervision, appraisals, and continues performance monitoring.
Knowledge, Qualifications & Experience Required
Must-have credentials:
- Currently registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) as a First Level Registered Mental Health Nurse. -or- Currently registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Registered Occupational Therapist. -or- Currently registered with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) as a Registered Social Worker.
- Significant post-registration experience, including specialisation in mental health.
- Proven experience supervising junior professionals (qualified staff where applicable).
- Strong commitment to continuing professional development (CPD) with evidenceable participation.
- Excellent communication and independent working skills, requiring no direct supervision.
Note: All roles assessed for Home Office sponsorship eligibility—NHSGGC sponsorship is only provided where qualifying criteria are met.
