Senior Commercial Analyst – UK Industrial Fusion Solutions (UKFE) Ltd.
Company Description
The UK Government has established UK Industrial Fusion Solutions (UKFE) Ltd, a subsidiary of UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA), to drive the delivery of fusion energy through the design and construction of the Spherical Tokamak for Energy Production (STEP) prototype fusion plant.
A pivotal innovation in combating climate change and ensuring energy independence, fusion is projected to be commercially viable by mid-century. The UK, led by UKFE, aims for a prototype fusion plant with first operations targeted around 2040.
This ambitious journey will deliver a £7tn (global) fusion sector opportunity and will require comprehensive leadership, industrial collaboration, and supply chain development.

Job Description
The Senior Commercial Analyst is instrumental in commercial and contracting activities for one or more Integrated Project Teams (IPTs) or the wider STEP programme.
Building on the Commercial Analyst role, the Senior Commercial Analyst:
- Operates with increasing autonomy
- Provides commercial advice and support in contract delivery
- Guides Buyers & Commercial Managers
- Ensures practices align with UKFE’s regulatory and strategic objectives, including PA23 standards
- Monitors vendor & contractor performance whilst supporting career growth in commercial teams

Key Responsibilities
1. Commercial & Contract Management
- Assist in drafting and reviewing complex contracts, including:
- Joint venture agreements
- Supply contracts
- Construction agreements
- Service contracts
- Ensure contract terms align with programme objectives, regulations, and governance standards
- Manage post-contract processes:
- Warning & change control
- Cost forecasting and financial reporting
- Payment mechanisms and cost validation
- Dispute avoidance and resolution to mitigate threats to stakeholder relationships
- Draft contract amendments, extensions, and variations in line with delegated authority and procedures
2. Performance, Reporting & Assurance
- Produce high-quality commercial reports on costs, risks, and performance, offering clear recommendations to senior leadership
- Maintain accurate, auditable records for contractor compliance
3. Stakeholder Management & Leadership
- Build relationships with internal stakeholders, suppliers, contractors, and partners
- Represent UKFE professionally in contract-related meetings
- Act as a mentor for Commercial Analysts and early-career professionals, fostering professional growth

Requirements
Essential:
- Experience in commercial or contract management, preferably in large-scale programmes or projects
- Strong commercial acumen, analysis, and problem-solving skills
- High proficiency in contract management systems & MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Excellent written/verbal communication, with the ability to influence and challenge constructively
- Willingness to pursue or achieve membership of:
- Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply (MCIPS)
- Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS)
- Alternative recognised commercial qualification
Desirable:
- CIPS Level 4 Diploma (or equivalent)
- Public and private sector operational experience
- Government-procurement and regulatory-dealings (UK public sector frameworks)
- Mentoring junior commercial staff
