Senior Commercial Lawyer
About the Role
The Commercial Legal team at Baringa is seeking an experienced Senior Commercial Lawyer to join as a senior leader. This role involves providing specialised legal, commercial, and risk management support to enable confident business growth.
Responsibilities
- Reporting to the Commercial Legal Director, collaborating closely with Legal & Business Integrity, Baringa Enablement, and wider firm leadership.
- Leading and Managing a Team: Allocate work, oversee performance, and support the professional development of commercial lawyers.
- Leadership in Digital Contracting: Drive complex digital deals (data, technology, AI, and cloud) across a range of commercial contracts.
- Risk & Contract Analysis: Deliver contract risk assessments for senior management, escalate high-risk items, and provide best-practice guidance.
- Contract Negotiation & Review: Shape and negotiate agreements (One-off Services Agreements, Framework Agreements, Licence Agreements, Sub-contracts) while aligning with insurance broker feedback.
- Knowledge Sharing: Develop precedents, playbooks, and training materials to enhance legal technology (CLM tools) adoption.
- Regulatory Compliance: Evaluate legal and compliance risks related to data protection and AI/technology contracting.
- Stakeholder Coordination: Work closely with Partners, Senior Leadership, People, Finance, Data, IT, Infosec, and other Baringa Enablement teams.

Requirements
Essential Qualifications & Experience
✅ Qualified solicitor or barrister in England & Wales (or a commonwealth jurisdiction) with ≥6 years post-qualification experience. ✅ Specialised expertise in digital contracting, cloud, data, AI, and technology delivery. ✅ Proven track record in negotiating high-value, complex commercial agreements with international clients, banks, and external law firms.
Key Skills
🔹 Team Leadership: Ability to lead, line-manager, and mentor commercial lawyers, balancing caseload while developing talent. 🔹 Critical Risk Assessment: Sound commercial judgement to identify, weigh, and articulate legal/commercial risks to executives. 🔹 Global Business Acumen: Understanding of international business culture and negotiation dynamics. 🔹 Stakeholder Management: Expertise in working with senior stakeholders, partners, and cross-functional teams. 🔹 Communication: Strong written and verbal skills, including translating complex legal issues for non-legal audiences. 🔹 Resilience & Drive: Ability to manage fast-paced deadlines and diverse workloads while ensuring team delivery standards.
