Senior Commercial Manager
Senior Commercial Manager – Skye Reinforcement Project (132kV)
About The Role
A Senior Commercial Manager is responsible for the end-to-end commercial and financial management of major, complex projects, often valued in the hundreds of millions of pounds. This includes overseeing:
- Project inception and tendering
- Contract negotiation
- Commercial delivery across one or more significant schemes
As a core member of the project or Business Unit senior leadership team, this role carries full accountability for:
- Commercial and financial performance
- Risks, procurement strategy, financial control and reporting
- Supply chain management
Key responsibilities include:
- Strong commercial acumen, effective stakeholder engagement, and sound project management.
- Leadership of commercial teams, mentoring, and professional development support.
- Extensive construction industry expertise, adaptability, and negotiation skills.
- Fellowship/Membership of RICS, ICES, or CIOB, depending on political structures.
The position supports the delivery of the Skye Reinforcement Project (Skye 132kV Reinforcement Project) within Power Distribution.
What You'll Be Doing
Core Responsibilities
- Provide commercial input to Value Engineering reviews for different construction methods.
- Coordinate the commercial team to identify and resolve programme issues.
- Manage the preparation of monthly Commercial Valuation Report (CVR) and related commercial reports.
- Report commercial progress to senior divisional staff.
- Set client supply chain requirements and advise on contract and procurement arrangements.
- Apply relevant legislation and collaborate with legal experts.
- Prepare Estimates & Tender submissions, interpreting specifications and preambles.
- Coordinate buying, accounts, production control, supply chain, procurement, and estimating/surveing functions.
- Manage disallowed costs and provide training/development oversight, including professional qualification support.

Who We're Looking For
Essential Experience
✔ Exceptional negotiation, leadership, and communication—with the ability to influence teams. ✔ Proactive mentorship, coaching, and talent development to ensure succession planning. ✔ Ability to meet deadlines efficiently, delegating confidently. ✔ Strong stakeholder relationships, both internal and external. ✔ Demonstrated resilience and achievement focus under pressure. ✔ Proactive opportunity, risk, and threat management. ✔ In-depth experience working on large-scale projects/portfolios, with cost collaboration and value maximisation expertise.
Qualifications
- BSc/MSc in Quantity Surveying or equivalent experience.
- Member/Fellow of RICS, ICES, or CIOB.
