About the Role
At Babcock, we’re working to create a safe and secure world, together. If you join us, you can play your part as a Senior Commercial Manager within our Mission Systems business, supporting critical defence capabilities across the Sense and Connect portfolio.
Job Summary
As a Senior Commercial Manager, you’ll lead commercial success across complex defence programmes. You will provide expert commercial leadership, supporting contract delivery, negotiations, pricing, and risk management, while driving organic growth and new business opportunities. Collaborating with senior stakeholders, customers, and delivery teams, you’ll shape pragmatic and innovative commercial strategies to achieve customer missions and long-term business success.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide commercial leadership and governance across a range of complex support contracts.
- Lead commercial negotiations, pricing strategies, and contract amendments to deliver balanced, value-driven outcomes.
- Identify and manage commercial risks and opportunities across the full contract lifecycle.
- Support tender activity and organic growth, developing robust commercial proposals.
- Act as a trusted commercial advisor to senior internal and external stakeholders, influencing key decisions.
Flexible Working Arrangements
This is a permanent, full-time role with a flexible hybrid model, offering the option to base yourself in Bristol, Plymouth, or Leicester and work two days per week on-site.

Essential Requirements
- Proven experience leading contract management across the full lifecycle in a complex, matrix organisation.
- Strong commercial expertise, including negotiation, risk management, and contract types.
- Experience supporting bids, proposals, or growth initiatives (organic or new opportunities).
- Ability to operate confidently at senior stakeholder levels, building trusted customer relationships.
- Business acumen with the ability to challenge, influence, and deliver under pressure.
Desired Qualifications
- Degree-level qualification in a relevant discipline (e.g., business, law, or accountancy) – or equivalent experience.
- Professional commercial or procurement qualifications, or commitment to obtaining them, is highly desirable.

To succeed in this role, you must be able to achieve and maintain:
- Standard (BPSS)
- Security Check (SC)
- Developed Vetting (DV)
