Commercial Manager – Fusion and Modular Nuclear Business Unit

Job Description: Commercial Manager
The Opportunity
🚀 Join the Fusion and Modular Nuclear Business Unit! We seek a seasoned Commercial Manager to play a pivotal role in delivering nuclear new build and SMR programmes. Your responsibility will span pre- and post-contract commercial activities—ensuring compliance with robust governance, managing commercial risks, and optimising value while aligning with UK nuclear regulatory expectations.
You’ll lead multidisciplinary teams, engaging with clients, regulators, Tier 1 contractors, and supply chain partners to provide commercially robust solutions, driving successful outcomes for critical infrastructure projects.
Your Mission
- Lead commercial delivery from early contractor involvement (ECI) through procurement, execution, to final account for nuclear new build and SMR projects.
- Manage contract administration, compensation events, change control processes, and claims under NEC forms of contract (or equivalent).
- Develop and execute claims avoidance/mitigation strategies to safeguard project value.
- Guide and refine procurement strategies to support programme schedules.
- Manage supplier interfaces across the nuclear supply chain, ensuring effective packaging, sourcing, and commercial structuring for optimised risk and delivery.
- Oversee congressional analysis, performance monitoring, and corrective action reporting.
- Negotiate and resolve commercial disputes with contractors and suppliers.
- Collaborate with engineering, project controls, legal, and procurement teams to achieve seamless integration and delivery.
- Contribute commercial insights during bid development, including aspects like pricing, risk allocation, and contract strategy.

Requirements
Your Profile
You must demonstrate a robust foundation in high-stakes nuclear or-regulated project environments:
- Proven experience in commercial management for nuclear new build, SMR, or similar complex infrastructure projects.
- Deep expertise in managing NEC contracts (NEC3, NEC4) in challenging environments.
- Track record in supply chain negotiations, contract administration, and risk management across high-value Tier 1 contracts.
- Strength in cost forecasting, commercial reporting, and financial optimisation.
- Familiarity with risk assessment, claims resolution, and change management for large-scale programmes.
- Preferably hold a degree (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or related discipline (highly desirable).
- Proficient in navigating regulatory or legislative oversight (where applicable).
- Experience across power generation, defence, or critical infrastructure projects.
- Ability to influence stakeholders, drive high-level commercial decisions, and manage complex negotiations.
- Highly analytical mindset with a drive for continuous value optimisation and risk mitigation.
- Strong leadership in cross-functional, high-priority environments while fostering collaborative and results-oriented culture.
