Senior Commercial Manager
About The Role
The Senior Commercial Manager will be responsible for the end‑to‑end commercial and financial management of major, complex infrastructure projects, typically valued in the hundreds of millions of pounds. This includes oversight of project inception, tendering, contract negotiation, and commercial delivery.
As a key member of the Project and Business Unit senior leadership team, you will hold accountability for commercial performance, financial control, risk management, procurement, and supply chain strategy, while leading and developing commercial teams.
You will demonstrate strong commercial acumen, effective client engagement, confident leadership, and excellent negotiation skills, with extensive experience within the construction or infrastructure sector. A proven track record of managing and mentoring commercial teams is essential.
Chartered status (RICS, ICES or CIOB) is typically expected.
Project Requirement
This role will act as the Commercial Lead on a major ASTI Substation project in Scotland, requiring dedicated senior‑level commercial leadership aligned to the scale and complexity of the works.
Ideally, candidates will be Aberdeen‑based, with flexibility considered for the right individual.
What you'll be doing
Provide commercial input to Value Engineering reviews for different forms of construction. To co-ordinate the commercial team to ensure programme issues are identified and actioned. Manage the preparation of the monthly CVR and associated commercial reports. To be able to report and explain the commercial progress to senior divisional staff. Establish client supply chain requirements & advise on alternative forms of contract & procurement arrangements. Application of legislation and ability to liaise with legal experts Preparation of Estimates & Tender submissions including the interpretation of specifications & preambles Co-ordination of buying, accounts, production control/planning, supply chain management & procurement techniques, estimating & surveying functions Management of disallowed cost Oversees & gives advice on training & development including professional

Who we're looking for
Essential Experience
Exceptional negotiation, leadership and communication skills are required, coupled with an ability to influence through others. Proactively develop, mentor and coach immediate and wider team members to ensure development of talent and succession within the team. Demonstration of working to deadlines including effective delegation, working efficiently and to a high standard. Excellent communication skills with all internal and external stakeholders. Demonstration of resilience and determination to succeed (achievement focus) Proactively manage opportunities, risks and threats An organised, innovative and creative Senior Commercial Manager with in-depth knowledge and experience of working on Projects and Portfolio’s. Leading on collating costs and maximising value on a large project or portfolio of projects.
Qualifications
BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying or experience equivalent. Member or Fellow of RICS, ICES or CIOB
