About the Role
At Babcock, we’re working to create a safe and secure world. If you join us, you can play your part as a Senior Commercial Manager within our Mission Systems business, supporting critical defence capabilities across the Sense and Connect portfolio.
Responsibilities
As a Senior Commercial Manager, you’ll drive commercial success across complex defence programmes and take on the following key responsibilities:
- Provide commercial leadership and governance across a range of complex support contracts.
- Lead commercial negotiations, pricing activity, and contract amendments to achieve balanced, value-driven outcomes.
- Identify and manage commercial risks and opportunities throughout the contract lifecycle.
- Support tender activity and organic growth opportunities through the development of robust commercial proposals.
- Serve as a trusted commercial adviser, influencing decisions at every level with key stakeholders, customers, and delivery teams.
Operating in a flexible hybrid model, you’ll have options to be primarily based in Bristol, Plymouth, or Leicester with typically two days on-site per week.

- Proven experience in leading contract management activities across the full lifecycle within a complex, matrix organisation.
- Demonstrated strong commercial capability with experience in negotiations, risk management, and diverse contract types.
- Background in supporting bids, proposals, and growth activities—either organically or through new business opportunities.
- Ability to operate confidently at senior stakeholder level, fostering enduring customer relationships.
- Strong business awareness, influencing skills, and ability to deliver under pressure.
Qualifications
- Degree-level qualification in a relevant discipline such as business, law, or accountancy, or equivalent experience.
- Professional commercial or procurement qualifications (or commitment to working towards them) desirable but not essential.

Security Clearance
Mandatory requirement: To undertake this role, you’ll need to obtain and maintain Standard (BPSS) / Security Check (SC) / Developed Vetting (DV) security clearance.
