Senior Commercial Manager – Sports Medicine Business (NHS)
At Smith+Nephew we design and manufacture technology that takes the limits off living.
This is a unique opportunity to step into a high-impact commercial role for our Sports Medicine business as Senior Commercial Manager. You will take strategic ownership of critical NHS accounts across the South East and South West of the UK, driving growth and shaping long-term partnerships while navigating domestic NHS contracting cycles—offering the chance to directly influence regional strategy and contribute to pivotal commercial opportunities.
This is a field-based role, covering the South East to the South West United Kingdom. Ideal location: Around the M4 corridor and neighbouring regions.
Role Overview
In this role, you will:
- Lead NHS partnerships – Operate at the centre of complex, high-value NHS negotiations, steering strategic discussions from early engagement to contract negotiation and agreement.
- Drive growth – Identify and unlock opportunities within tier-one trust accounts.
- Shape long-term strategies – Contribute to regional securement and development plans, positioning Smith+Nephew for future NHS contract mapping.
- Compete in high-stakes tenders – Play a central role in fragmented NHS framework agreement proposals, ensuring compelling customer value-driven arguments.
- Analytics and insights – Share findings with senior stakeholders to improve strategic commercial approaches across the NHS landscape.
Your efforts will align with broader commercial team opportunities, while allowing for individual account ownership and leadership growth.
Key Responsibilities
Account Development & Relationship Management
- Lead engagement with senior stakeholders in priority NHS trusts—from initial outreach through to contract closing.
- Build enduring partnerships by demonstrating expertise, strategic foresight, and cost-effective outcomes.
- Navigate complex contract changes and procurement cycles with decisive clarity.

Bag & Business Growth
- Generate and execute action plans to increase market share and revenue within assigned accounts.
- Collaborate with sales teams, technical areas, and procurement specialists to propose and win critical accounts and high-value tenders.
- Track key performance indicators and use data to refine strategies and prioritise opportunities.
Strategic Execution & Proposal Leadership
- Drive framework and bid responses, synthesising technical and business insights into winning proposals.
- Lead cross-functional efforts to present Smith+Nephew’s value proposition clearly, compellingly, and commercially.
- Support internal decision-making by aligning commercial strategies with wider NHS environment needs.
Team Support & Operational Excellence
- Share best practices with colleagues to elevate collective capability in NHS securement.
- Contribute to the development of democratised tools and processes that improve efficiency and market wins.
Experience & Skills
To succeed as our Senior Commercial Manager, you will bring:
✔ Strong NHS experience – Proven track record of working within healthcare commercial environments—especially with NHS trusts, contracts, and regulatory requirements. ✔ High-value degree-finishing deals – Demonstrated skill in leading complex negotiations, selling strategic commercial solutions, and closing large accounts. ✔ Bid & Tender Expertise – Experience writng, shaping, and executing winning bids across fragmented frameworks (general, foot & orthopaedics, fasciitis, etc.). ✔ Senior Stakeholder Collaboration – Ability to engage effectively with ** директора, Clinicians, and Managing Directors** to deliver shared outcomes. ✔ Travel Commitment – Preparedness for at least 75% field-based travel across the region—along with the geographical flexibility of being located along the M4 corridor.
