Commercial insurance is changing, and we're building something different.
At Admiral Business, we're creating a modern, data-led Commercial proposition that combines underwriting expertise, technology and customer insight to deliver better outcomes for brokers and customers alike.
As a core member of our Underwriting team, you'll partner closely with Pricing, Product and Data to shape underwriting strategy, influence product development and drive profitable portfolio growth. This isn't a traditional underwriting role focused solely on individual risks. You'll take ownership of portfolio performance, help define our underwriting appetite and play a key role in building a scalable Commercial proposition from the ground up.
Why this role matters
We're not just growing a Commercial portfolio—we're building the future of Commercial insurance at Admiral.
As a core member of our Underwriting team, you'll help shape the decisions that define our products, underwriting strategy and long-term growth. By partnering with Pricing, Product and Data, you'll turn insight into action, balancing technical underwriting expertise with commercial thinking to create better outcomes for our customers, brokers and the business.
You'll have the opportunity to influence far more than individual risks, helping build a smarter, more scalable underwriting capability that will support Admiral Business for years to come.
What You'll Be Doing
- Own the performance of a portfolio of UK Commercial Combined business, balancing growth, profitability and customer outcomes. (Primarily across Property & Casualty lines)
- Shape underwriting appetite, referral strategies and portfolio governance.
- Partner with Pricing to refine rating models, optimise pricing and improve portfolio performance.
- Work alongside Product to evolve our Commercial proposition, influencing product design and coverage enhancements.
- Use underwriting data, claims insight and market trends to identify opportunities and support strategic decision-making.
- Build and develop strong relationships with regional brokers, driving profitable and sustainable growth.
- Act as a technical expert within the team, supporting colleagues and helping to embed underwriting best practice.
- Help build a scalable, data-led underwriting capability that supports Admiral's long-term ambitions in the Commercial market.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
