Job Title: Senior Commissioning Engineer – Mechanical (STS)

Location: Barrow-In-Furness

Salary: Up to £42,750 Depending on experience

What you will be doing:

As a Senior Commissioning Engineer – Mechanical (STS), you will lead the commissioning of complex mechanical systems within a high-risk engineering environment, ensuring safe, compliant delivery in line with company procedures and legislation. Supporting the Dreadnought Submarine programme, you will review technical documentation, coordinate activities with key stakeholders including the Royal Navy, MoD and Build Operations, and provide technical guidance to the wider team.

Core duties:

  • Lead commissioning activities for complex mechanical systems, ensuring safe, compliant and efficient delivery of assigned work packages
  • Plan and coordinate commissioning activities with engineering teams, Royal Navy, MoD, Build Operations and other key stakeholders
  • Research, author, review and maintain technical design documentation, test documentation and commissioning records to the required standards
  • Carry out mechanical testing activities, including flushing, pressure and endurance testing, and system setting to work
  • Use appropriate test equipment and techniques to complete system testing requirements in line with procedures and safety standards
  • Maintain accurate records of commissioning activities in accordance with company policies, procedures and legislation
  • Represent BAE Systems during Factory Acceptance Tests, offsite test facilities, Contractors Sea Trials and other outworking requirements, including potential overseas travel
  • Provide technical support, guidance and mentoring to less experienced members of the commissioning team

Essential Skills:

  • Knowledge of mechanical system operations, including hydraulic, pressurised air and gas, domestic and chilled water systems, and tank testing
  • Proven experience commissioning complex systems and plant within an engineering environment
  • Experience using test equipment and completing mechanical testing activities
  • Understanding of mechanical flushing, pressure and endurance testing, and system setting to work
  • Ability to interpret technical documentation, drawings and engineering information
  • Strong understanding of safety controls, procedures and compliance requirements within a high-risk environment
  • HNC qualification in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent relevant experience

The Mechanical STS Commissioning Team:

As a Senior Commissioning Engineer – Mechanical (STS), you will join a highly skilled commissioning team supporting the delivery of the Dreadnought Submarine programme, one of the UK’s largest and most complex engineering projects. You will have the opportunity to work on a first-in-class submarine programme, contribute to major commissioning milestones and develop your technical expertise within a world-class engineering environment. Relocation support packages are available across Submarines roles, subject to eligibility criteria.
