What You’ll Be Doing
As a Senior Commissioning Engineer – Mechanical (Propulsion), you’ll oversee critical commissioning of mechanical propulsion systems on the Dreadnought submarines—an introductory-generation fleet for the Royal Navy. Your role spans:
- Safety-driven commissioning of complex propulsion systems under stringent regulations.
- Collaboration with engineering teams, naval build operations, the Royal Navy, and the Ministry of Defence.
- Representation at Factory Acceptance Tests, Contractor Sea Trials, and overseas exigencies.
Core Responsibilities
- Execute commissioning per company protocols, legal standards, and legislative compliance.
- Coordinate cross-functional stakeholders to ensure safe, compliant system integration.
- Produce, review, and maintain technical documentation (commissioning plans, test procedures, reports).
- Mentor junior engineers within mechanical propulsion domains.
- Document and manage commissioning records in line with security/vetting requirements.
- Deliver on-time, high-quality outcomes while adhering to project deadlines.

Essential Skills & Experience
Technical Proficiency
- Mechanical systems expertise: With focus on steam, condensate, lubricating oil, and cooling systems.
- Complex machinery commissioning: Including diesel engines, turbo-generators, steam turbine plants.
- Proven ability in testing hardware (e.g., flushing, pressure tests, endurance runs, system alignment).
- Familiarity with Nuclear Site Licence/Authorised Conditions and high-risk protocols.
Work Environment
- Skilled in safe operations within regulated, nuclear/defence settings.
- Able to adapt to geographically diverse assignments (including overseas travel).
