About the Role
We are seeking an exceptional Senior Complex Claims Adjuster to deliver outstanding claims service by assessing policy coverage, investigating, evaluating, and negotiating complex cases in Marine and Energy liability Insurance. Reporting to the Complex Marine, Energy and Political Claims Manager, you will ensure prompts settlements while maintaining accuracy, transparency, and adherence to the QBE Claims Philosophy.
The role will centre on processing high-value, high-exposure claims, from initiation to resolution, including extensive stakeholder management, expert evaluations, and strategic claim resolution. You will also support team development, process improvement, and business forecasting to drive operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Claims Management & Resolution
- Oversee the examination, evaluation and processing of complex claims estimates and paid claims values.
- Manage full claim lifecycles, aligning decisions with policy terms, QBE policies, and regulatory standards.
- Develop and implement claim strategies, including reserving strategies, investigative scopes, and settlement approaches.
- Lead and coordinate in-depth claim investigations, collaborating with potential experts, such as:
- Market loss adjusters
- Forensic accountants
- Industrial surveyors
- Marine engineers
- Legal counsel
- Negotiate claims with insured parties, agents, and third parties to achieve fair and efficient resolutions.
Decision-Making & Analysis
- Approve significant claims within authorised limits and adhere to recovery protocols.
- Assess recoverable amounts and ensure follow-ups for recovery providing accounting solutions.
- Contribute to future claims strategy by analyzing business trends and forecasting claim activity.
Client & Stakeholder Relations
- Maintain excellent relationships with:
- Insured parties
- Agents/commissionaries
- Service providers
Team Leadership
- Guide, motivate, and develop junior team members through mentorship and best practice.
- Ensure team compliance with organisational standards and procedures.

Person Specification
Essential Skills & Experience
- In-depth knowledge of Marine and Energy liability Insurance.
- Proven expertise in handling complex high-value claims.
- Exceptional investigative, analytical, and research skills.
- Current understanding of compliance, regulatory, and statutory requirements.
- Advanced negotiation and mediation skills.
- Strong presentation, relationship management and data reporting abilities.
- Ability to produce Complex Metrics Information (MI) tailored to various organisational levels.
Technical & Administrative Skills
- Proficient in claims software/Case management packages.
- Experience with regulatory audit, reporting, and compliance tracking.
