Senior Compliance Engineer hybrid working with at least 3 days per week onsite in Cheltenham. We are looking for a Senior Compliance Engineer to lead and drive complex product compliance and regulatory activities across engineering and product development programmes. Find out more below!
As an individual contributor, you will provide expert guidance on regulatory strategy, standards interpretation, and conformity assessment, supporting multi‑disciplinary teams to ensure products meet applicable legal, regulatory, and certification requirements for global markets. The role includes direct liaison with approval bodies and external test houses, taking ownership for the successful delivery of compliance activities within the New Product Development (NPD) function. Operating with a high degree of autonomy, you will also provide informal technical leadership, guidance, and support to other team members as required. You will report directly to the Product Compliance Manager and support the leadership of the wider compliance team where necessary. Key Responsibilities Lead and support product compliance activities across the full product lifecycle, from concept and design through validation, certification, and market placement. They would also lead in sustaining sales of legacy portfolio with recertification. Interpret, apply, and maintain compliance with applicable regulations, standards, and approval schemes. Develop and execute product compliance strategies, including identification of regulatory requirements, risk assessments, and conformity routes. Coordinate and support testing, validation, and technical documentation required for regulatory approval and certification. Support the process of supplier compliance requirements. Act as a technical compliance authority within projects, advising engineering, quality, and product teams on regulatory and standards-related matters. Support engagement with external bodies such as test houses, notified bodies, certification agencies, and regulatory authorities. Lead and support project planning, schedules, and risk management to ensure compliance deliverables are achieved within agreed timelines. Manage engineering changes by reviewing the impact to compliance and finally signing off where appropriate. Identify compliance risks, gaps, and improvement opportunities, supporting corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives. Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of regulatory changes, emerging standards, and industry best practice, and assess their impact on existing and future products. Support internal governance, audits, and compliance reviews as required. Skills/Requirements Experience Typically 6–10 years of relevant experience in engineering compliance, regulatory engineering, or a related technical discipline. Demonstrated ability to operate independently on complex compliance topics and provide authoritative advice to stakeholders. Experience coordinating or guiding the work of others on compliance or regulatory activities. Experience working with regulated products and external certification or approval bodies is expected. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline, or equivalent professional qualification or experience. Professional training or certification in regulatory compliance, standards, or conformity assessment is desirable. We can offer you a lot in return!
