CAD Technician & Senior CAD Technician
Location: Manchester | Hybrid Working Available | Contract & Perm opportunities
The Opportunities
Our client is expanding their design team and is looking to recruit both CAD Technicians and Senior CAD Technicians to support the delivery of multidisciplinary engineering projects across the rail and water sectors.
Whether you're an early-career CAD Technician looking to develop your technical skills or an experienced Senior CAD Technician ready to take ownership of design deliverables, this is an excellent opportunity to join a growing consultancy working on a diverse portfolio of infrastructure projects.
You'll work alongside experienced engineers and designers, contributing to the production of high-quality engineering drawings while developing your career within a collaborative and supportive environment.
The Roles
Senior CAD Technician
As a Senior CAD Technician, you'll take the lead in producing engineering drawings and models, ensuring deliverables are completed accurately, on programme and in line with industry standards.
Key responsibilities include:
- Producing high-quality engineering drawings and models using AutoCAD.
- Working closely with Design Engineers to develop and coordinate design solutions.
- Ensuring drawings comply with company CAD standards and client requirements.
- Delivering design outputs on time and within budget.
- Managing project documentation using ProjectWise and other document management systems.
- Applying engineering standards, standard details, and best practice throughout the design process.
- Providing accurate time estimates and managing workload effectively.
- Supporting continuous improvement in CAD standards and mentoring junior technicians where appropriate.

CAD Technician
As a CAD Technician, you'll support the production of engineering drawings while developing your technical skills through hands-on project experience and mentoring from experienced engineers and technicians.
Key responsibilities include:
- Producing accurate engineering drawings and models under the guidance of senior team members.
- Assisting with drawing revisions throughout the project lifecycle.
- Ensuring drawings comply with company and industry standards.
- Using standard details and templates to prepare engineering drawings.
- Working within established quality procedures and design processes.
- Managing project documentation using ProjectWise and similar systems.
- Supporting multidisciplinary engineering teams across a range of infrastructure projects.
- Continuously developing your CAD and engineering knowledge through training and practical experience.
About You
Senior CAD Technician
You'll have:
- Minimum 4 years' CAD drafting experience.
- UK Water industry experience
- Strong proficiency in AutoCAD.
- Good understanding of engineering principles and technical drawings.
- Excellent communication, planning, and organisational skills.
- Ability to manage your own workload and deliver to project deadlines.
- Experience working within multidisciplinary engineering teams.

CAD Technician
You'll have:
- Around 2–3 years' experience using CAD software.
- UK Water industry experience
- A good understanding of engineering drawings and drafting principles.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- A collaborative approach and willingness to learn.
- A genuine interest in developing a career within engineering design.
Desirable Experience (Both Roles)
- Civil 3D and/or Revit experience.
- HNC or higher qualification in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
- Experience within the rail or wider infrastructure sectors.
- Knowledge of engineering drawing standards and CAD best practice.
- Experience using ProjectWise or similar document management systems.
- Exposure to 3D modelling software.
- Experience producing reinforcement drawings and bar bending schedules (Senior level).
