Senior Construction Manager

About Senior Construction Manager

At National Grid, we’re accelerating a clean, secure, and affordable energy future. Within our Interconnectors business, we deliver world-class infrastructure that connects energy systems across borders, playing a vital role in enabling the transition to net zero.

We’re now looking for a Senior Construction Manager to join our Interconnector Construction Directorate, leading the delivery of critical CapEx projects on the IFA interconnector.

This is a key leadership role, where you’ll take ownership of complex construction projects, ensuring delivery to time, cost, and quality while maintaining the highest standards of safety and performance. You’ll operate in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with the autonomy to use your expertise to drive projects forward and overcome challenges as they arise.

Location & commute The role is based on-site at Sellindge, Kent, and you would need to be within one hour’s commute for the job.

Additional benefits The role comes with a job requirement car and occasional travel to other sites.

What you'll do

  • Lead the delivery of construction projects aligned to the IFA lifetime strategy
  • Manage projects end-to-end, ensuring milestones are achieved and delivery remains on track
  • Take accountability for project performance across safety, quality, cost, and schedule
  • Lead and motivate teams, fostering a high-performing and collaborative culture
  • Work closely with supply chain partners, including contractors and designers
  • Partner with Asset & Operations teams within a live HVDC interconnector environment
  • Mentor and develop team members, supporting long-term capability growth
  • Manage significant CapEx budgets, ensuring delivery against financial targets
  • Drive efficiencies while maintaining scope and quality
  • Provide technical and commercial challenge to ensure optimal delivery outcomes
  • Champion a strong safety culture, aligned to our ‘Safe to Say’ ethics
  • Ensure compliance with all health, safety, environmental, and CDM regulations
  • Promote best practice, visibility, and open communication across project teams

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
