Senior Consultant - Process Scientist / Engineer (Water & Wastewater Treatment)

About the Vacancy
WRc, a trusted division of the RSK Group, is seeking a Senior Consultant – Process Scientist / Engineer to join their Integrated Systems & Environment (IS&E) Directorate.
This permanent, full-time role operates on a hybrid basis—you will travel regularly across the UK and internationally, including for overnight assignments. A full driving licence is a must.
As a Senior Consultant, you’ll deliver technical expertise, drive business development, and mentor peers. The role demands initiative, strong stakeholder communication, teamwork, and the ability to explore opportunities both for IS&E and other areas of WRc/RSK.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development
- Collaborate with the IS&E Directorate to identify and shape new business opportunities.
- Develop value propositions, service offerings, and technical solutions for future projects.
- Network to build relationships with clients, colleagues, and external stakeholders to uncover opportunities.
- Represent WRc/IS&E at water industry events or conferences, promoting expertise and advancing growth for the team.

Project Delivery
- Apply deep knowledge of current best practice in water/wastewater treatment.
- Lead technical solution development tailored to client challenges.
- Oversee project delivery ensuring budget, timing, and quality targets are met.
- Mentor junior team members under pressure, maintaining client satisfaction.
- Achieve agreed utilisation targets.
- Engage with academia/industry to support end-to-end solution delivery.
Person Specification
Education & Qualifications
- An undergraduate/postgraduate degree in Science, Engineering, or Environmental disciplines.
- Chartered Engineer/Scientist (preferably, or recognised steps toward chartered status).
Experience & Expertise
- Proven expertise in water/wastewater treatment, including theory, industry standards, and practicable applications.
- Relevant industry experience gained through consultancy, research, academia, or the water sector.
- Experience working in a laboratory/research environment.
Skills & Attributes
- Proactive problem-solving attributes, with demonstrable case studies.
- Technical leadership in a specialised area of water/wastewater focus (e.g., process optimisation, thermal/wet treatment).
- Excellent communications—verbal and written.
- The ability to craft comprehensive technical reports or deliverables.
