Senior Consultant, Professional Services
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Consultant, Professional Services based in United Kingdom.
This role sits at the intersection of deep technical database expertise and modern data engineering consulting, supporting enterprise customers as they design, migrate, and optimize mission-critical data platforms. You will work in a highly customer-facing environment where technical credibility and clear communication are equally important. The position spans PostgreSQL consulting, cloud data architectures, and emerging AI/ML-enabled data workloads. You will help organizations modernize legacy systems, reduce operational risk, and unlock scalable analytics capabilities. Expect to work on complex, high-impact projects involving migrations, performance tuning, and high-availability architectures. You will also collaborate closely with stakeholders to translate business needs into robust technical solutions across diverse industries. This is a hands-on consulting role with strong ownership and visible customer impact.
Accountabilities
- Act as a trusted technical advisor for enterprise clients, leading engagements that span database modernization, migration, and advanced data platform design. Your work will include both advisory and hands-on implementation across PostgreSQL and cloud data ecosystems.
- Assess existing PostgreSQL and legacy database environments, producing structured recommendations, runbooks, and modernization strategies.
- Lead database migration projects from Oracle, SQL Server, and MySQL to PostgreSQL, including schema conversion, data transfer, and remediation of application logic.
- Design and implement high availability and disaster recovery architectures using PostgreSQL technologies such as Patroni, EFM, and PGD.
- Perform advanced performance tuning across queries, configurations, and infrastructure layers to optimize reliability and efficiency.
- Implement backup, recovery, and upgrade strategies including PITR, WAL archiving, and version lifecycle management.
- Support customers in building modern data platforms, including data pipelines, warehouses, and analytics solutions in cloud environments.
- Integrate AI/ML capabilities, LLM-based workflows, and RAG pipelines into client data ecosystems where applicable.
- Contribute to pre-sales activities by shaping professional services proposals and defining technical delivery scope.

Requirements
- You bring a strong background in database systems or data engineering, with the ability to operate in customer-facing consulting environments. You are comfortable switching between deep technical execution and high-level advisory discussions.
- 2-5 years (Consultant) or 5-8+ years (Senior Consultant) of experience in database engineering, DBA roles, or data engineering consulting.
- Strong expertise in PostgreSQL administration, performance tuning, replication, and high availability setups.
- Experience with Oracle and/or SQL Server, particularly in migration scenarios.
- Solid SQL skills and understanding of database design and data modeling principles.
- Hands-on experience with Linux systems and scripting (Bash, Python, or equivalent).
- Experience with at least one major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and modern data tools (e.g., Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks).
- Strong Python and/or Scala skills for data pipelines and automation use cases.
- Familiarity with data warehousing concepts and modern analytics architectures.
- Exposure to AI/ML frameworks or data science libraries is a strong plus.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.
- Fluency in English is required; additional European languages are a plus.
