SQW is looking for a Senior Consultant or Managing Consultant (Economist) to join our team and help deliver high-impact quantitative research, modelling and evaluation projects across the UK.
SQW is one of the UK's leading economic and social research consultancies. We provide independent research, analysis and advice to central government, devolved administrations, Combined Authorities, local authorities, universities, and voluntary and private sector organisations. Our consultants are based in Edinburgh, London and Manchester, with a hybrid working approach in place.
Role Overview
The role focuses on applying advanced econometric and quantitative methods to address real-world policy questions across areas including economic development, innovation, business growth, employment and skills, health and social care, and the Net Zero transition.
- Econometric analysis and quantitative modelling
- Policy and programme evaluation using advanced methods
- Economic impact assessments and Green Book appraisals
- Forecasting, scenario modelling and data visualisation
- Preparation of reports, presentations and technical outputs
- Development of new business proposals and methodological approaches

Depending on experience, you will manage quantitative-led projects, engage directly with clients, support business development activities, and help strengthen SQW's quantitative capability.
Required Skills and Experience
- A 2:1 or higher degree in economics, econometrics, statistics or a related discipline (with postgraduate qualifications desirable)
- Strong experience applying econometric and statistical techniques to complex policy questions
- Experience using R and/or Python for quantitative analysis and modelling
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Experience using data visualisation tools such as Power BI
- Excellent digital skills, including Microsoft 365 applications
