Senior Content Designer – Digital & Service Design
About the Role
We are currently looking for a Senior Content Designer to join our Digital and Service Design Function within the Digital and Technology group.
This is a full-time, permanent position based at 7/8 Wellington Place, Leeds, LS1 4AP.
Flexible Working Policy
Government departments and agencies are working towards implementing a minimum 60% attendance in office sites.
We currently operate a flexible, hybrid way of working, requiring a minimum of 8 days per month on-site. Due to the collaborative nature of the role, this could fluctuate up to 12 days per month, with the remainder of time worked remotely or from our office. Requirements may vary; please discuss flexibility with the recruiting manager before accepting the appointment.

The Digital and Technology Group (DTG) supports MHRA’s mission by delivering optimised IT infrastructure, secure data use, world-class services, and innovative solutions. The Group played a critical role in accelerating COVID-19 vaccine approvals and supporting the UK’s independent medicines and device approvals post-Brexit.
Our User-Centred Design (UCD) function brings together user research, service design, interaction design, and content design to create accessible, inclusive, and effective digital services that meet user needs.
About This Role
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Content Designer to ** Shape and grow user-centred design practices** at the MHRA.

You will lead content design activities, ensure content assurance, and deliver regulatory-compliant, user-focused solutions that support UK public health and regulatory aims.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and evaluate and improve content design strategies for large or complex programmes and projects, ensuring content aligns with MHRA strategy and regulatory requirements. Use user research, analytics, and service data to inform decisions and measure effectiveness.
- Take full responsibility for the quality, coherence, and effectiveness of content across the end-to-end service journey, while remaining detail-oriented.
- Provide content assurance and sign-off in line with organisational standards.
- Manage risks associated with publishing content, including legal, compliance, reputational, and user-safety considerations, ensuring appropriate controls are implemented.

Experience Criteria (Assessed: Communication Questionnaire, Interview, Presentation)
- Significant experience applying user-centred content design methods, creating accessible, inclusive, and usable content in line with the Government Service Standard.
- Ability to develop content strategies, information architectures, or content models for complex services, leveraging research, analytics, and outcomes.
- Proven ability to work in multidisciplinary teams and influence stakeholders to adopt user-led, accessible, and evidence-based content standards.
- Experience in coaching, mentoring, or supporting designers, including contributing to standards, communities of practice, or assurance activities.

Technical Criteria (Assessed: Communication Questionnaire & Interview)
- Degree-level qualification or equivalent professional experience in content design.
- Strong expertise in user-centred design methods, particularly in digital service delivery.
- Proven experience working within an Agile delivery framework and the GDS Service Standard.
Selection Process

- Interview – Assesses behavioural, experiential, technical, and strengths profile criteria.
