Your Role

We are seeking a permanent Senior Content Designer—someone passionate about making information easy to understand and aligning digital products closely with user needs. You must be experienced in public-sector environments, knowledgeable about standards such as the Service Standard, and committed to writing clear, polished, and high-quality content.


Key Responsibilities

  • Planning, writing, and managing usable, accessible content adhering to GDS/GOV.UK content design guidelines and standards.
  • Developing accurate, timely, and search engine optimised content that aligns with style and editorial guidelines.
  • Managing stakeholders—building impactful relationships and explaining content decisions transparently.
  • Applying analytical problem-solving skills to design challenges, fostering continuous improvement in approaches.
  • Championing user-centred digital design practices, ensuring content and messaging cater to real user needs.
  • Advocating for accessible and inclusive digital experiences for all users.
  • Participating actively in the Content Design Community of Practice, including sharing knowledge, best practices, and assisting peers.
  • Leading content quality efforts, including:
    • Creating and delivering training and development plans for junior content designers.
    • Assisting with project planning and sales/marketing support.
    • Guiding recruitment activities.
    • Cultivating a supportive, inclusive team culture, encouraging positive work-life balance and peer-to-peer collaboration.

Travel Note

This role is primarily remote, though UK-based client side visits and occasional stays away from home may be required as needed.


Requirements


Essential Skills & Experience

  • Experience designing user-centred content under GDS/GOV.UK standards, including deep understandings of:
    • End-to-end user journeys.
    • Journey fixes and content improvements for digital products.
  • Proven track record in agile environments, where you:
    • Advocate for content design roles in multidisciplinary teams, promoting its essential role.
    • Nurture harmonious relationships with designers, developers, researchers, and other stakeholders.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, allowing you to:
    • Articulate complex topics (e.g., digital servicing principles, accessibility compliance) in ways stakeholders understand.
    • Adapt messaging according to different audiences and project settings.
  • Strong stakeholder management, with the ability to:
    • Build and maintain client relationships, ensuring project alignment with user needs.
    • Negotiate effectively, manage expectations, and resolve blockers proactively.
  • Strategic thinking capabilities, such as:
    • Contributing to both short-term and long-term strategies that link business objectives and end-user outcomes.
    • Conducting impact evaluations to monitor progress and adjust plans.
  • Collaborative partnerships with user researchers, with a commitment to:
    • Actively applying insights from research to inform design decisions.
  • Emphasis on accessibility as a core focus, ensuring policies and design choices adopt inclusive best practices.
  • A commitment to prioritising content quality, including:
    • Regularly reviewing, updating, and refining content for continuous improvement within digital products.
