Senior Contract Manager – Procurement & Commercial
Base Location: [Aberdeen, Glasgow, Inverness, or Perth] (50% office-based)
Offers & Benefits
Salary: £58,100 – £87,100, including:

About the Role
An urgent opportunity exists for a Senior Contract Manager to join SSE’s Procurement and Commercial Team, supporting onshore development projects in Transmission Development – a strategic area with £12bn in planned capital spend over the next decade.
As a critical stakeholder in this process, the ideal candidate must possess pre- and post-contract experience with high-value projects, ideally within energy/transmission sectors. Expertise in strategy development, stakeholder engagement and commercial compliance (Utility Contracts (Scotland) 2016, Procurement Act 2023) is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Procurement & Strategic Leadership
- Partner with the Onshore Procurement and Commercial Manager to deliver world-class procurement services compliant with internal manuals and governance requirements.
- Develop and implement project-specific procurement strategies, manage negotiation, bidding processes, contract award and subsequent commercial oversight through development phases.

Contract Management
- Ensure compliance with legal frameworks (including NEC, FIDIC or LOGIC conditions of contract) and Statutory Utilities Regulations across £12bn in onshore and offshore projects.

Stakeholder & Dispute Coordination
- Demonstrable experience in stakeholder engagement, influence, leadership and dispute resolution.
- Maintain relationships with partners, Ofgem, and external stakeholders to explain cost justifications and align strategies.

Cost & Financial Governance
- Cost estimating, forecasting and accrual management with evidence-based reporting aligned to project deadlines.
- Guide supply chain payments, expenditure management, budget monitoring and procurement cycle compliance.

Risk Mitigation & Performance
- Anticipate and resolve challenges within contractual frameworks, ensuring optimal cost visibility, supplier performance and timeframes.
Requirements & Qualifications
Essential
- Degree qualification in Quantity Surveying, Law, Business Management or related fields.
- Substantial commercial experience in a procurement/contract management role, with experience in:
- Strategy development and contracted cost management
- Leading procurement cycles from invitation to tender through commercial management post-award
- Understanding commercial data interpretation and contract drafting/negotiation
- Knowledge of Supply Chain Output Specification and numerical data: price justification/accrual reviews.
- Familiarity with ** Utilities Contracts (Scotland) Act 2016**, Procurement Act 2023 and Procurement/Energy market regulations.

Preferred
- Commercial exposure to NEC, FIDIC, or LOGIC contract conditions.
- Experience with onshore project development challenges (multiple project portfolios, value engineering, market benchmarking).
- Appreciation for Ofgem reporting standards and Regulation impact analysis.
