Senior Contracts Officer
Senior Contracts Officer – Permanent
Location: Warwick (Hybrid Flexible Working) Salary: £55,000 – £60,000 (dependent on experience) Hours: Full-time or part-time (4 days per week)
About the Role
At National Gas, we operate nearly 5,000 miles of pipes across Great Britain, delivering gas to power stations, major industries, storage facilities, and over 24 million homes. As we lead the energy network transformation toward a clean energy future, we’re seeking a Senior Contracts Officer to manage and procure gas system management services, balancing both commercial and physical operational needs.
Your role will involve:
- Managing strategic commercial relationships across the Gas System Management Services portfolio.
- Leading and developing specialist areas, including:
- Balancing Services (Operating Margins) and Shrinkage trading contracts.
- Data Services Contracts to support operational risk management.
- Ensuring compliance and risk mitigation throughout procurement, negotiation, and contract execution.

Key Responsibilities
Contract Management & Relationships
- Build and maintain strong relationships with Gas System Management Services providers.
- Lead contract negotiation and development (including £28m+ spend in Balancing Services) while leveraging support from the Commercial Contracts Manager.
- Oversee the procurement of Data Services Contracts and other operational support contracts (up to £3m monthly invoicing).

Strategic & Risk-focused Leadership
- Negotiate and procure Gas System Management Services contracts to match evolving energy delivery requirements.
- Ensure timely financial reporting and business planning forecasts in collaboration with the Incentive Performance and Development team.
- Challenger service providers to improve efficiency and reduce risk.
- Represent National Gas in industry governance committees, advocating for operational and regulatory interests.
Operational Excellence & Innovation
- Identify service development opportunities and introduce new contracts/providers where needed.
- Drive continuous improvement with service providers.
- Monitor invoicing accuracy for all managed contracts.
Requirements
Essential
- HND/Degree in a commercial, business, or related discipline—or equivalent industry experience.
- Proven leadership in procurement, contract management, and commercial relationships.
- Strong interpersonal skills, particularly in influencing, negotiation, and stakeholder management.
- Experience in a regulated industry, with knowledge of commercial incentives, risk assessment, and performance measurement.
- Ability to perform quantitative analysis and mitigate operational risks.
- High level of organisation, planning, and reporting—with the initiative to drive projects forward.
Preferable
- Relevant experience with energy, utilities, or infrastructure contracts.
- Understanding of gas network operations and energy market regulations.
