Senior Controls Engineer
Location: Coventry (Hybrid available after probation)
Salary: Up to £65,000 + Benefits
Job Type: Permanent | Full-Time
About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Controls Engineer to join a growing systems integrator delivering bespoke automation solutions across manufacturing, logistics, FMCG and special purpose machinery sectors.
Working within a highly experienced engineering team, you'll be responsible for the full automation project lifecycle, from software design and development through to testing, commissioning and customer handover.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop PLC and HMI software using Siemens TIA Portal
- Deliver projects through the full control system lifecycle
- Produce functional design specifications and technical documentation
- Carry out Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT)
- Commission control systems on customer sites across the UK and occasionally overseas
- Provide technical support during installation and commissioning
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to engineering best practice

Essential Skills & Experience
- Proven experience as a Controls Engineer, Senior Controls Engineer or Automation Engineer
- Strong Siemens TIA Portal PLC programming (S7-1200 & S7-1500)
- WinCC HMI development experience
- Industrial communication networks including Profinet and Profibus
- Experience delivering projects within industrial automation or systems integration
- Ability to read electrical schematics and troubleshoot control systems
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable
- Servo and motion control
- Siemens Startdrive and SINAMICS drives
- Safety PLC programming (Failsafe)
- SCADA experience
- EPLAN or AutoCAD Electrical exposure
