Project Systems Engineer – Ride & Show Controls (Lead)

About the Role
A Project Systems Engineer (Lead) for Ride & Show Controls is responsible for the technical management, budgeting, and scheduling of Ride and Show systems, including Ride Control, Show Control Systems, and related automation. This multidisciplinary role requires leadership across design, fabrication, installation, testing, and system validation while ensuring compliance with Universal Specifications, safety standards, and engineering best practices.
The ideal candidate will oversee multiple vendors, project teams, and installation activities, ensuring seamless coordination between the facility, construction team, and third-party engineers. You will mentor direct reports, enforce technical and safety principles, and mitigate risks while advancing high-quality entertainment solutions.

Key Responsibilities
Technical & Operational Leadership
- Provide technical oversight of Ride and Show systems through the design phase, fabrication, installation, and acceptance testing.
- Ensure schedule alignment and budget adherence for Ride/Show systems, including Ride Control and Show Control Systems.
- Specify, bid, award, and manage contracts with vendors based on scope of work derived from creative intent and Universal Specifications.
- Collaborate with Natal Engineering, electrical, and fabrication teams to enforce technical and safety policies and maintain delivery quality.
Vendor & Project Management
- Lead vendor selection, onboarding, and management, including contract negotiations, status tracking, and change order implementation.
- Participate in technical and project management reviews, ensuring alignment on quality, compliance, and escalation procedures.
- Provide technical guidance to vendors during in-field installation, testing, and troubleshooting to ensure quality and adherence to specifications.
Safety Compliance & Risk Mitigation
- Ensure all Ride and Show systems comply with Universal Specifications, accepted manufacturing practices, and applicable safety regulations.
- Conduct Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) reviews and ensure team adherence to inhouse guidelines and regulations.
- Monitor system performance and address risks, projecting future maintenance needs and upgrading solutions as required.
Team & Stakeholder Coordination
- Develop strong working relationships with facility teams, vendors, and project stakeholders to ensure clear communication.
- Foster collaboration and teamwork among direct reports to build cohesion, motivation, and accountability in the attraction technical team.
Requirements
Education & Experience
- A bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical field (e.g., electrical engineering, computer science, mechatronics, or related discipline) is required; an advanced degree is preferred.
- Proven experience in vendor management, including in-field installation coordination, contract negotiation, and technical oversight.
- Strong background in integrated systems—preferably with experience in Ride or Show Controls, PLCs, SCADA, or similar technologies.
- Demonstrated success in project management, including budget administration, risk mitigation, and stakeholder alignment.
- Familiarity with Universal Orlando Resort culture and entertainment industry processes is a plus.

Technical Proficiencies
- Knowledge of Universal Ride and Show Safety Specifications.
- Experience with Ride Control modulations and Show Ice Protocol.
- Technical expertise in electrical systems, high-velocity ride operations, or similar entertainment media applications.
Soft Skills
- Strong analytical problem-solving and cross-functional collaboration abilities.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills to coordinate between technical, creative, and executive teams.

Visualization & Team Leadership
- Experience overseeing teams of 5+ members across multiple projects.
- Ability to mentor junior engineers and maintain high performing teams.
