Job Purpose
Reporting to the Site Engineering Manager, the Senior Controls and Robotics Engineer will lead automation, controls, and electrical projects across the site. This role involves:
- Supporting production needs
- Driving continuous improvement initiatives
- Managing projects end-to-end (concept to completion) via collaboration with internal teams and external partners
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Project & System Leadership
- Take full ownership of site automation and control projects, overseeing:
- Initial specification → design → implementation → commissioning → validation → final handover
- Serve as primary liaison for system commissioning and start-up with OEMs and integrators
- Ensure systematic documentation, training, and handover of all new installations and system changes
Technical Management
- Troubleshoot and manage:
- PLCs (Allen Bradley, Siemens S5/S7)
- HMIs, SCADA, robotics, vision systems
- VFDs, servo drives, fieldbus networks, and integrated control systems
- Develop custom PLC programs to:
- Improve process performance
- Enhance safety
- Diagnose and resolve PLC code issues, network faults, and electrical faults
- Ensure compliance with HSE standards for high-voltage systems
- Maintain up-to-date backups of all automation systems

Qualifications
Educational Requirements
- Degree in Automation, Electrical, or Electronic Engineering (BSc/BEng/MEng/HND)
Experience & Technical Proficiency
- Minimum 5 years in a similar role within a manufacturing environment
- Project management experience demonstrated
Core Technical Knowledge

| PLC & Automation | Hands-on experience with Allen Bradley, Siemens S7, HMIs, SCADA, and protocols such as Profibus, Profinet, Ethernet/IP |
| Robotics & Motion | Experience in robotics programming, servo drives, and motion control |
| Vision Systems & Safety | Familiarity with vision systems and safety equipment (e.g., Pilz) |
| Electrical & HV | Deep understanding of high-voltage systems, three-phase networks, and electrical schematics |
| Documentation & Collaboration | Ability to read, update, and manage technical schematics; API/database basics (SQL) |
| IT Infrastructure | Basic knowledge of networking and server architecture |
| Project Tools | Experience with industry-standard project management methodologies |

- Clear communication: Translating complex systems to engineers, management, and non-technical stakeholders
- Leadership and mentoring expertise for training junior engineers and technicians
