Senior Cost Engineer

Context
We currently have an opportunity for a Cost Engineer to join our growing engineering team in Birmingham.
This position within our team will suit a committed individual who can demonstrate interpersonal skills combined with commercial awareness and the ability to play their part in growing a dynamic high-performance team.
With a focus on the design of High Speed Rail infrastructure, the post-holder will also support other Product Lines in the UK and overseas. The post-holder will be part of a growing team delivering projects for a diverse portfolio of UK clients.

Missions/Main Duties
Working in collaboration with our management team, designers, and contract partners, the Cost Engineer will be involved in a variety of tasks such as:
- Applying the recognised Cost Management and Earned Value Techniques.
- Analyse and interrogate all Weekly Actual Cost Reporting for accuracy of hours booked, performance against forecast providing feedback to the DJV Project Team.
- Producing timely and accurate actual and forecast cost reporting to ensure that the Project Financial position is reported accurately through SPOT at month end and that all costs have been authorised, captured, and reported correctly, including the calculation of monthly accruals.
- Control and analyse scope deviations through trend and change management processes.
- Build relationships with budget holders across all Systra disciplines to ensure that the project costs are being captured correctly.
- Support to inter company trading transactions for global production centres including entity margins and regional performance against business targets.
- Attend Progress Meetings and communicate clear and concise data to the Project teams across all Systra regions.
- Attend Systra Work Package Reviews and record the meeting minutes and all actions.

Profile/Skills
- Experience in cost engineering, project controls, or commercial management within the rail, transport, or infrastructure sectors.
- Strong knowledge of project cost management processes and earned value principles.
- Proficiency in cost management software and Microsoft Excel; experience with Primavera P6, IFS, or similar ERP/project tools is an advantage.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to present financial information clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical and numerical abilities.
- Proactive and solution-focused with the ability to challenge cost assumptions constructively.
- Strong collaboration skills to work effectively across engineering, commercial, and project delivery teams.
- Commitment to delivering value, efficiency, and transparency in large-scale infrastructure projects.
