About the Role

Join our Birmingham Cost Management team as an Senior Cost Manager, where you’ll guide projects throughout their lifecycle—from initial conception and business case development to procurement, site delivery, and defects resolution.

We’re looking for a strategic leader who:

  • Provides mentorship and line management to Project Surveyors, Cost Managers, Graduates and Apprentices.
  • Delivers end-to-end cost management, including estimation, cost plan development, procurement advice, and final account reconciliation.
  • Ensures commission compliance, efficient project execution and client satisfaction.
  • Fosters client relationships and serves as a trusted interface for our projects.

Key Responsibilities

Project Lifecycle & Strategy

  • Manage costs from inception to completion, aligning with strategic business cases and financial goals.
  • Lead tender preparation, procurement and negotiations to ensure competitive and cost-effective solutions.
  • Oversee post-contract control, valuations, change management and final account settlements.

Team Leadership

  • Mentor and support junior team members in developing cost management expertise.
  • Assign and delegate tasks while ensuring alignment with project deadlines and objectives.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and innovation within the team.

Client & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build trust and rapport with clients, delivering value-add insights on cost, risk and sustainability.
  • Act as a key liaison between AECOM and our clients, ensuring seamless communication.

Adapting to Growth

  • Play a pivotal role in scaling our services within UK Commercial, Industrial, Logistics, Residential and Education sectors.
  • Drive efficiency in project delivery while maintaining high standards.

What We Look For

If you’re passionate about precision, innovation and impact, apply if you meet these criteria:

Qualifications & Experience

✔ Degree-qualified (BSc/Hons or MSc) in Quantity Surveying, or Cost Management. ✔ Chartered Membership of the RICS (or ability to progress to Chartered Status). ✔ Proven ability to deliver cost management across entire projects, from estimating to final account reconciliation. ✔ Clear behavioural traits in cost risk management—not just focusing on numbers but managing value, procurement and mitigating risks. ✔ Strong proficiency in digital tools, including:

  • Cost planning software (e.g., Deltek Vantagepoint, CostX)
  • Tender and vale management systems
  • MEFP (Measured Element Flows & Patterns) or other industry-standard measurement systems

Sector & UK Practicality

🇬🇧 Experience in UK markets, across:

  • Commercial & Industrial development
  • Logistics, Storage and Warehousing
  • Residential communities (student, affordable & luxury housing)
  • Higher Education & Cultural spaces
