About This Role
Join our growing team across the North, Midlands and Scotland Region (operating from 8 regional offices) as a Senior Cost Manager with Transmission and Distribution experience. You'll work on diverse and challenging projects—national and local, from project conceptualisation to delivery—with like-minded professionals who embrace innovation and top-tier solutions.
Key Responsibilities
As a Senior Cost Manager, you will:
- Lead a team to successfully manage and deliver capital investment projects, including:
- Asset health refurbishment
- Replacement of existing infrastructure
- Provide cost/commercial management support throughout the project lifecycle:
- Option studies & development
- Construction tender support
- NEC contract administration
- Deliver cost and commercial management services on:
- Multi-disciplinary Transmission, Distribution and Power Systems projects
- Perform client-side cost and commercial management, including:
- Stakeholder, risk, and contract management
- Ensure projects are delivered to client satisfaction on budget
- Guide the cost/commercial management team to:
- Provide adequate resources
- Meet business and client requirements
- Manage contractors/subcontractors’ payments and settle final accounts in line with contract terms
- Build strong client and cross-functional team relationships
- Support business development with existing and new clients

Qualifications & Requirements
Essential Criteria
✅ Five+ years’ experience in cost or commercial management ✅ Proficient in NEC contracts, particularly NEC3 and 4 (PSC and ECC focus) ✅ Experience working in a client-side organisation, including colocation/secondment arrangements ✅ Strong background in collaborative, multi-organisational teams ✅ Infrastructure and cost-management experience in complex projects ✅ Minimum of a relevant degree (e.g., quantity surveying) ✅ Chartered membership of a professional body (e.g., RICS)
Desired Skills & Qualifications
✨ Experience working with NGET business processes or National Grid specific techniques (e.g., process 500) ✨ Familiarity with UK Transmission and Distribution systems (33kV–400kV, substations, overhead lines, and cable assets) ✨ Excellent communication, organisational skills and ability to stakeholder-engage ✨ Strong budget management and financial oversight proficiency ✨ Experience in working independently with minimal guidance ✨ Ability to collaborate, lead teams, and nurture professional growth ✨ Adaptability to project dynamic changes and problem-solving for complex challenges ✔ Continuous professional development (e.g., RICS or related qualifications)
