Opportunity Overview Innovate UK Business Connect (now partnering with UK Research and Innovation) seeks a Senior Credit Analyst on secondment for 23 months. This is a fixed-term position working within a remote/a national travel-based team to support assessments of high-risk loans.

Role Details

  • Band: UKRI Band E (terms and conditions apply)
  • Salary: £46,743 gross per annum
  • Reports to: Head of Credit
  • Location: Field-based (flexible travel, telepresence for meetings)
  • Contract: Fixed Term (23 months)

Purpose You will support Credit Specialists and Relationship Managers in evaluating new loan applicants and managing high-risk portfolios. Subject to experience, you may take ownership of independent caseloads. Women are strongly encouraged.


Key Responsibilities

Origination & Review (with Credit Specialist)

  • Analyze financial and non-financial information (audited accounts, signals intelligence) for loan applicants, including sensitivity/cashflow/budget tests.
  • Engage with applicants to validate documentation and gather additional details.
  • Contribute to transaction-level sensitivity analyses and prepare recommendations for the IUKL Credit Committee.
  • Oversee credit governance: file maintenance, minute-taking, and regulatory documentation.
  • Collaborate with Operations to ensure smooth transition of approved loans (legal checks, condition tracking).

Portfolio Management

  • Work with Relationship Managers, carrying out annual risk reviews, covenant adherence monitoring, and early-debt-distress interventions.
  • Share insights in proactive reports to stakeholders.

Person Specification

Experience & Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree or equivalent rigorous experience, or relevant professional qualification (credit/finance/business focus).
  • Proven ability to interpret business health, using:
    • Sensitivity/stress testing
    • Balance sheets, cashflow/mgmt accounts analysis
    • Key performance indicators.

Desirable

  • Financial sector experience (banking/alternative lending) or subject-matter expertise.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong data-sourcing + evidence presentation: reports, visualisations, oral briefings.
  • Relationship management: set clear expectations with clients/applicants.
  • Experienced Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Analytical decision-making
    • Strategic thinking with intellect-driven solutions
    • Commitment to organisational alignment + agility.
