Senior Credit Controller
Position: Senior Credit Controller
- Contract: Permanent, 40hr/week
- Location: Colchester or Hybrid

About the Role
You’ll join a capable and experienced team responsible for debt collection across Local Authority, NHS, and Private Client accounts, requiring diverse skills to navigate differing regional and organisational needs.
Working collaboratively with the Invoicing Team, you’ll ensure:
- Timely resolution of account issues
- Consistent, high-quality service for Finance and Operations
Responsibilities
- Proactively resolve outstanding balances through direct communication via:
- Letters, emails, and telephone calls with:
- Local Authorities
- NHS Integrated Care Boards
- Private clients and their representatives
- Letters, emails, and telephone calls with:
- Process credit notes and amended invoices based on approved requests
- Collaborate with Operations & Invoicing Teams to resolve invoicing disparities
- Maintain comprehensive reconciliations of individual accounts within your portfolio
- Monitor unallocated funds within your portfolio, ensuring timely allocation
- Establish and maintain Direct Debit Mandates for private clients
- Process card payments for private clients
- Provide daily/weekly reporting to Operational Managers & Directors on critical account issues
- Achieve KPIs focused on:
- Maximising cash collection efficiency
- Minimising outstanding old debts & write-offs
- Escalate and promptly resolve operational or accounting issues with your Line Manager
- Support annual audits, compiling evidence requested by external auditors

Qualifications & Skills
Must Have
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in English & Maths
- A Levels (or equivalent)
- 3+ years’ experience in credit control
- Exceptional communication skills (oral & written)
- Proficient account reconciliation skills
- Intermediate Excel proficiency (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP)
- Experience with Accountancy software
- Flawless collaboration skills for relationship-building (internal & external)
- High attention to detail and scrupulous work ethic

Nice to Have
- AAT qualification (or studying towards it)
- Specific credit control experience within social care or health finance
- Familiarity with NetSuite
- Exposure to Time Management & Billing systems
- Basic Google documentation tools knowledge
