Senior Credit Risk Manager – All Global Markets

Description

We are seeking a Senior Credit Risk Manager to oversee and drive the next phase of growth across our global business, based within our London headquarters.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead the Credit Strategy and Underwriting Team, owning, developing, and innovating our credit strategy to ensure consistent, high-quality credit decisions aligned with our company’s risk appetite and regulatory obligations.
  • Partner closely with senior risk leadership, Product, Data, Decision Science, Compliance, and Commercial teams to strengthen credit policies, optimize decisioning frameworks, and drive continuous improvements in portfolio performance.
  • Operate in a fast-paced environment requiring deep credit risk expertise, outstanding interpersonal skills, and drive collaboration with business partners and senior management.
  • Manage and be accountable for team performance, underwriting quality, operational efficiency, and the delivery of key risk outcomes across UK, US, EU, and future markets.

Responsibilities

Overall Market Credit Risk

  • Own the Credit Strategy across all current (UK, US, EU) and future global markets.
  • Contribute directly to business KPI delivery (e.g., growth, profitability, loss rates).
  • Collaborate with global leadership teams to align strategy, prioritize initiatives, and share best practices to meet shared targets.

Credit Strategy Development and Innovation

  • Own and deliver the Global Credit Strategy roadmap (aligned with business partners and senior leadership).
  • Continuously develop and innovate the credit strategy for a market-leading capability.
  • Work closely with capital markets, product, tech, legal, compliance, and operations for strategic alignment, regulatory compliance, and an integrated customer proposition.

Portfolio Performance Monitoring and Management

  • Monitor portfolio performance, identifying trends in credit quality, losses, and early-risk indicators.
  • Lead risk reporting, present insights to senior management, and facilitate Credit Committee discussions.
  • Recommend mitigation actions to improve portfolio outcomes.

Team Leadership & Management

  • Lead, manage, mentor, and develop a skilled team of credit risk analysts and underwriters.
  • Conduct recruitment, talent development, and build a recognized centre of Credit Risk excellence rooted in the company’s culture.

Governance, Compliance, and Quality Assurance

  • Be accountable for the Risk Governance Framework, including Credit Risk Policy and Process documentation (across markets and regulatory requirements).
  • Oversee underwriting/risk assessment processes to ensure consistent policy application and risk appetite compliance, collaborating with Secondary QA teams.
  • Review complex/escalated cases, offering structured risk decision guidance.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Required

  • 5+ years’ experience in credit risk, underwriting, or related risk functions (financial services, fintech, lending, or commercial credit).
  • Deep understanding of:
    • Credit underwriting principles
    • Data science model application
    • Risk appetite frameworks
    • Portfolio risk management
  • Quantitative reasoning skills to analyze complex datasets and innovate solutions autonomously.
  • Strong communication skills (writing/verbal), including explaining risks to non-technical teams.
  • Proven team leadership (recruitment, development, accountability) and cross-functional influence.
  • Ability to assess financial statements, cash flow, and credit data for structured risk decisions.
  • Highly organized, adept at balancing multiple priorities in a fast-paced, growth-driven environment.
